"You must do what you feel is right, OF COURSE." ??

I'm not an over the moon fan of Star Wars but i've seen the thing (especially A New Hope) over a hundred times and I swear I always thought that line was

"You must do what you feel is right to the force."

I've thought that since 1977. But today I watched that making of thing on youtube and he clearly says "of course." They play the audio from the set while they are shooting the scene so there's no music in it - the music in the theatrical release actually swells there so it drowns out Ben's dialogue a little but still -- i CAN'T BELIEVE i've had that wrong all these years. :confused

Anybody else hear differently in that scene.

"Lost Tiree, lost Hutch! They came from us behind!" (the "us" part is, I think due to some hissing sound that happens right at that moment -- and the line never made sense to me)

"Do you know what's going on?" "Maybe it's another girl." (This line made PERFECT sense to me as a kid because, of course, Princess Leia was the only girl on the entire Death Star and everyone knew she was there and it was a big deal. So, if there's all kinds of excitement, well, maybe it's ANOTHER girl! To my five year old mind, this was entirely logical.)

Err... That's exactly what he said wasn't it? "They came from us behind"?

Yes the line grammatically makes no sense; however I always took it as Gold Five knew he was about to be blown away, and with a bit of panic, frantically spits the words out as fast as he can. So he kind of trips over his own words but gets the jist of it out that "they came at us from behind"

Oh and it was Dutch, not Hutch. However I also heard Hutch as well.


As for hearing "You must do what is right in the Force"...

I can't recall ever mis-hearing lines in any of the Star Wars films, but it did happen the first time I saw Blade Runner. I don't recall the specifics, but I mis-heard Edward James Olmos' last line and walked out of the theater thinking the movie sucked. While discussing it afterwards on the way to the car, my friends set me straight and my opinion completely reversed. It's funny how one single line can have so much effect on a person's perspective on a movie.

Never had a problem with the "You must do what you feel is right" line. Same with "Before the Empire".

That film is known for its clunky dialog, though.

I've always heard "before the Empire".

And Gold 5's line is "They came from behind", that's how I've always heard it. He seems to pause a bit before "behind", from emotion and stress, but the line is "from behind".

Yep. That's the line. But if you don't know what the "Jundland wastes" are, why would you think he said "Junland"? Anyway, like I said, I thought he said "General," but I know better now.

See, now, this one makes sense to me! I mean, I heard it as "hermit," but I can see where -- especially if you were a little kid when you saw it -- "kermit" would make just as much sense. I mean, he IS a muppet. He IS green (and we know it's not easy being green). Why not a "kermit" then?
