From the kooky modeler who in 2019 brought you "Spaceship in Burger King Commercial"...

Coming to Wonderfest 2023, and this thread

I started with the educated guess that they used 1/144 Saturn V cones for those exhausts. Everyone else did.

So I scaled the logo to match them the best I could, and printed it out. It required printing out in two sheets.

But then I looked more closely at those cones. The Saturn ones didn't seem to match.

And those pairs of little thrusters next to them looked familiar.

AH! MPC Space: 1999 Eagle!! Perfect.

And with the logo scaled down, it makes for a smaller, more easily built model, and (a biggie), it will print out on a single 8.5 x 11" sheet!
And so it began...

And so the first parts went down, and with such limited reference, it was the last possible moment for any attempt at matching the rest of it part-for-part.

And so I worked my way around, finding parts that came in pairs, from donor kits of appropriate vintage. And a completely invented underside, with the full knowledge that the original probably had absolutely no detail under there.

I found a vector file of the 70s logo. However, the letters are fat and smooshed together.

So I had to roll up my sleeves in Photoshop to get them to match the model.

First paint layer is a dark gray, which I let serve as a pre-shading by not being too thorough with my top coat of Tamiya Insignia White.
It's darker than the original model, maybe a little more so than I'd like, but I couldn't bring myself to do a stark white. (photos with the flash look more like the ad, which of course would've been shot with bright studio lights...)

The antennas are doll-house scale golf clubs!

I'm usually one for understated display bases, but in the case of this and my BK model, context was important. So printed out a collage of the posters being promoted in the ad. At WF I will have the ad playing in a loop to leave no doubt.
