Yet Another TASM

I'm working on my TASM print, currently in the process of puff-painting, but I'm thinking ahead about the front and back spiders. I want to sculpt the shapes, and then make a mould, and cast it out of some kind of latex rubber. But I'm not sure if that's the right thing to cast with. Do you guys have any recommendations for which smooth-on product I should cast the front/back spider with to retain good stretch and flex? Also, how should I attach it to the suit? Would contact cement be sufficient?

What are my options when it comes to seamstresses or sewbros here on therpf? The only one I know of with a lot of spider experience is TrophyWife, but she's got a long wait.

I've recently asked a buddy of mine whose dad works with plastics what would be the best way to go about this. I'll post some information soon based on what I find out.
Thanks!

Would really love some help on this >_>

Another question: What should I use to paint the black/yellow version of the Asics?

Although members of the forum have had good results from TW and other seamstress services, it just seems to me it makes sense to ask around in your local community and find a local seamstress. Typically people that do dress alterations, or manufacture sports clothing (lycra stitching experience).
The reason why this is good is that you can go in for regular fitting sessions, so the suit fits exactly right.
It's not rocket science - so long as it's someone experienced you should be fine.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find around here.

Does anyone have any information as to my other questions?
1) What kind of material should I cast the front and back spiders with and how can I attach them to the suit?
2) What kind of paint would be good for painting the black/yellow Asics?

What are you using for applicator bottle for your puff paint? I am traveling through Atlanta tomorrow and I am trying to get with Nelson the Engineer Guy to see what he says on which type of silicone may be best to use for the spider. I'll let you know what I find.

Read through this post:

I'm using these tips. I just take the metal tip part and put it on the bottles of puff-paint that I buy. I don't transfer paint into the bottles included with the tip.

I'd really appreciate any info you can find on the type of silicone. I've been thinking about using Vytaflex and use so-strong to tint it black and red.

Spoke with the Engineer guy and his team and they recommended dragon skin with black tint. The problem with using silicone will be adhesion to lycra. The best bet will be to apply the first layer and really embed it into the fabric. Then another layer can be applied from the back to lock it in place. I will not tint the back side layer so this way you will not see it if it happens to bleed back through the fabric. In fact I will likely do the back first in the clear then apply the front second. Either way this should lock it in. You can also use thinner for the silicone so it will be super smooth and free of bumps like puff paint can do. Good luck and I may start my own post to show progress.

Well, I haven't touched this thread in forever, but I thought I'd post my process on finishing this suit.

Started out with the print from Taylor McManus

Went through the incredibly painstaking puffy paint process. I only worked on it about 2-3 hours per night over the course of probably a year.

I finished the arm first and did a rough test fitting to see whether or not I should continue with the whole suit or just sell it, if it were the wrong size.

For the spider, I used puff paint around the edges to build a kind of "wall", and then mixed up and poured tinted Dragon Skin rubber. This worked out really well, but it was a learning process.

This is after I got it back from Trophy Wife. The mask didn't fit over my face shell, so I had to cut it off. Unfortunately, when cutting, I stretched the mask over a mannequin and it's proportions were wrong, so I cut the neck too low.

I sewed a portion of the neck back on, and sewed up a new [detached] mask before Emerald City Comic Con this past March. I'm using a McLean TASM2 shell & lens set.

Looking fantastic, especially given that you do in fact look like Spiderman. It's funny that the 8-pack shading was part of the suit :)

:/ what would be the best way to get a suit then. I dont want a zenti suit due to stolen patterns and such. My friend had that problem.
I like mcleans durable lenses and faceshell. Anyone who makes just as good?

Your best bet is to get the lens and shell from TJack. You can get the suit design from Orhadar (gunheaddesign.com) and then print it with FabricOnDemand.com
