Yet another GONK Droid build

Well here we go, my first build progression posted to the RPF (hopefully the first of many.) I’m not running a crazy cool workshop just yet being just 16, but I’m working my way up there. Around Christmas I saw Meijers selling two big storage containers for 10 dollars total and I knew it would be time to build one of my favorite droids. I first dremeled off the rim of the storage containers (which I might end up regretting) because they were just too not-Star Wars-y. Before thinking up some designs and with that research, I saw some great opportunities to pause BFII and get some cool shots of the greeblie boxes on the sides. (Yes I know the BFII GONK is almost completely different from all other GONKS but I liked some of the boxes around him and the canister thing on the back) So after that I found a Tupperware food container and man oh man I had a hard time arranging those greeblies in there, nothing was matching my idea of a GONK face. So I looked at a lot and I mean a lot of pictures and scratch made some parts to match some and came up with a unique design that matched my idea. Attached all with the epoxy, sanded Tupperware to get a good grip, replaced some of the old foam and plastic parts with some wood ones and used some unique (you might recognize) weights to hold them down(Continues in replies)

After the face panel was done, I started on a back access panel mounting system since I want to be able to get into the GONK (there’s gonna be a Bluetooth speaker and some other neat things to add to the GONK functionality.) I started with some wierd foam sheet and used magnets to attach it to the back, and greeblied up the back panel, but I wasn’t digging the way it was looking, and thought it looked more detailed than most of the other parts of the build, so I tore it off and made some wierd grill/cooling panel that will stick permanently on the back. I’ll just use the GONK face plate to get in the droid because I haven’t glued it in yet. In making some of those triangle vent peices on the belt sander, for the first time In 3 years I received a nasty hand injury that put me out of working on the GONK (among other projects) for a good 2 weeks. It’s much much better now fortunately, but I look forward to that nasty scar. If I can get away with posting the healing process here I would but it’s kind of grody and I’d assume people come to the RPF for Random Props and not injuries so... After the old back plate was removed I added the new one permanently and re-enforced the internals of the storage container with thick EVA foam and just recently worked on this little half circle box that will go on top, and the clamped wooden squares will be the next detail on the bottom. Updates to come in the next week.
