Y-Wing Building

No, not trimmed.
So can you guess what was done?

With very little work you end up with this.

...but that's the one without the gear!

EDIT: but I see that the recess is filled in. Thanks for the tip!

Only two of you willing to pound the pavement?

Over 10 thousand hits to this thread, I know they can't all be Tread's.

O.K., I'll jump in. Haven't posted here in a while, but I have been researching and buying Ep. 4-era kits since then. Been aching to get back into the Y buildin' anyway.

I've finally been able to go thru the Bandai armor kits I've thus far acquired and feel confident that the valve cover by the Harrow part is from the Tiger I kit. Take a look at the image comparing the disputed Panther part with the Tiger part and let me know if you agree.

Darkside, I'm looking to assist in parts identification in anyway I can. Please count me in.

Here is the link. http://www.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=67b0de21b32a66e965aa 15 parts and three "structures" are what is left. If more angles or views are required of any of the pictures please let me know, I can provided them.

Find the structure in the first two pictures and the reward will be handsome.

I couldn't eliminate the "U" chanel from the middle of the part(1st picture), it isn't a part of the structure.

Possible. and most likely donor kits for these parts will be from AMT,Nichimo, Nitto, fujimi, Aoshima, Revell, and Monogram. Maybe, bandai...

Here's a part I alluded to recently. It's from the Bandai 1/48 Panther-G or Jagd Panther kits. I don't know if all the Y-wing variations use it, but the version shown in Chronicles clearly does.

Great! What part # is that?

Also, could you check your Tiger I for the part with the box with the "X" shape on it?

Would anyone have a clear shot of the steering vane region? I've got
a good hunch I know what the truss feature shown in at least one
y-wing models is from (seen as the horizontal truss on the Art of Star
Wars and Star Wars Technical Journal photos). I'll post my find once
I'm sure of the part.

ok I cant believe I am doing this but I stated a y wing
I am just about to fini my X and was catologing my kits for the umteanth time this year and found I have many of the y kits as well and after looking at my ref pics I actually started id ing kits amazing hey

Here are my progress pics (if I've posted them correctly.). The engines are (of course) Saturn rockets and L'eggs eggs. The main fuselage is made of several wood blocks, sanded and cut to shape, laminated in styrene. There is a brass tube running the inside length of the fuselage allowing for wiring (which will later power some fiber optics in the c-pit). The c-pit is made of balsa foam, sanded and cut to shape, and vac-formed with a layer of styrene. Obviously I have a lot of filling and sanding to do, but wanted to share where the project is. I've been a lurker around here for some time and am happy to finally be able to contribute something.

I have spect nearly $3,000 on kits and have assembled quite a collection of the proper parts - but am still a long way off. In the near future I'll be posting for some help on ID's and hopefully someone would be gracious enough to help out.

One last note - I've found a local guy who can rotocast, and I'll be getting a quote from him on what it would cost to produce a small number of the c-pit piece. If that works out, I'll offer it up to this board only - at cost, since you guys have been so helpful in the past with parts ID's, etc. That's all for now.
Dan

PS: If these images don't appear (there should be 2 of them) could someone please help me get a clue on how to do it. Thanks

OK, thanks for the tips.

The links to the pics are bad -- the server you specified can't be found. Please double check and correct URL to your images.

I think the link is assuming it's you, logged into your account. Try accessing your pics without being logged in and copy THOSE URLs.

Here are the pics from 1138's site. Links sometimes are screwy hope you dont mind me posting them for you.. Great job by the way!

1138,

That's really quite impressive! Glad to see someone onto the c-pit shaping. Nice to see some new faces around here and I'm sure you'll get plenty of help when it comes to bashing the parts onto her (that sounded somewhat explicit...) Anyhow, welcome aboard.

To all, thanks very much for the feedback and welcomes, and thanks to Steve for posting the pics for me.

Later in the week I'll link to some more pics and also publish a list of my kit inventory, which now stands at slightly more than 100 (many of which are definite matches to the y-wing and many are not).
