Re: XRobots: Updated - 3D printed Hand Plate hinge

I now have a new 3D printed hand plate mechanism. video at:

Re: XRobots: Updated - 3D printed Hand Plate hinge

It's an interesting idea.

Personally I'd have gone for a spring loaded mechanism so when you put your hand down it 'unlocks' and springs up rather than being hinged like yours is.

It could go down a similar way, pulling your hand back could hinge it back down and 'clip' back in.

don't know if i explained that clearly but it makes sense in my head :)

just feel it would have a more dynamic effect it is 'snapped' up rather than opened as quickly or slowly as you moved your wrist

Re: XRobots: Updated - 3D printed Hand Plate hinge

I know this has been said lots of times, but awesome work! Its your site and video blogs that made me start my own. I was hesitant at first and built the helmet first (not the best foot forward) which is has been covered which fibre glass Ipson 40 atm. Will be sanding slightly then applying ipson 38 for an easy sand and then primer etc.

The electronics you have been using is great as it is so accessible for any novice! Great work! Please keep it up... Thanks again :) Look forward to the finished results...

I've gone BLIND! This looks great and can't wait to see the next video

I'll be watching this one after work...GM

Well James, hope you don't mind me calling you that. Viewed so many of your vids in the last year, it's like i know you lol. That last vid is truly something. I needed to ask, is this a unibeam that stays lit at a lower setting and then as a weapon it goes fully lit? I would guess that the leds are available in colors as well. Amazing work as always. Looking foward to the 2nd vid...GM

Yes I plan to drive the PWM from the DAC on a microcontroller, so it could power up/down/fade/pulse/strobe and stay at any level at any time.

Re: XRobots Iron Man: THE BRIGHTEST UNIBEAM IN THE WORLD!! Page 20

Watched this earlier today - Brilliant stuff.

Do you plan to run a single LED for standby mode, or all of them at a lower power setting?

I've ordered 20 of those LEDs for my build. Am hoping to use normal LEDs for standby, and fire up the 10W beasties for firing mode. But as I'm still only on the helmet, it will be a while before I get soldering. Hopefully you'll be done by then so I can pinch your many brilliant ideas :)

I know you favour the Picaxe controller, but have you seen this Arduino project - Bionic Iron Man Armor (w/ Sound Effects) - It looks like the kind of stuff you'd come up with :)

Keep at it - Really like your videos.

They can all run at low power, or turn on/off as required. The Arduino is quite large, although you can buy smaller boards - for most props projects the Picaxe is more than sufficient (and cheaper).

Here's the next update - making light up eye lenses that you can still see through.

This is exactly what i was looking for. Thanx for this James...GM

Thanks guys, here's my next update about my second attempt to build the strapping system for my Iron Man suit. I've recycled some of the original 'exoskeleton' strapping system, and along with some 3D printed parts I've started a more refined version.

Always love your videos! Your video and editing skills are just as good as your build skills! :)
