X Wing

Hi guys. Thought it would be fun to go out on a limb and post progress on my x-wing. I'm a total noob with this. I've only done one other hardware piece but with all the incredible work I constantly see on this board, I had to jump in head first lol! I'm amazed at the subtle attention to details from all the builders here and wanted to experience that. Boy, am I experiencing it! :eek I'm only maybe a third of the way through this but it seems to look a little like an x-wing now. Anyway, just thought I'd throw it up and ask for feedback from the experts, etc. I have a ways to go but I lose perspective after a while. It's supposed to be a Red 2 and I think this is what is referred to as a V2 x wing from Mike. Thanks all!

She looks really good KJ, its a tough thing to jump into the painting of an X for the first time, I know as I have only done 2 of em, I learnt loads from reading posts here & just studying hundreds of pics of ILM models & other custom builds.

She really does look great, some closer pics of the weathering would be great to see as well.

Thats actually really nice. I like it ! I have built more X wings than i can remember , but everytime i paint one i learn something new. Keep up the good work

Thank you, guys! I really have a very limited idea of what I'm doing. I figure the only way is to do it straight on and learn as I go. This is the place to do this with all the talent here! I'll try to take some closer pics, too.

Some closer pics.

I still have to begin weathering the rear and maybe more on the engines. I haven't yet even started Luke or the cockpit. Maybe some more weathering on the cannons, too

Outstanding work! My only comment (and it may be a bit too late) is that the yellow seems a tad "hot". Perhaps you can mute it a tad with a thin but comprehensive covering of pastel chalk powder? Also, it may be the flash. Share so natural light shots with us if you can.

Red Two is my favorite, and you are fully doing it justice!

Thanks for the great feedback, guys! PHA, how would I go about toning down the yellow with some pastels? Any color recommendations? I agree, when I see the pics, the yellow is brighter but I think it may be too bright in person, as well.

I'd use either a black or a earth tone (somewhere in the tan to brown range) and just apply a thin but overall "coat". You may even find a light tan to creme colored pastel, but that may be too light.

You can use various application techniques. Brushes, rub on wth your finger, etcetera...

Just practice first (if you haven't used pastels before). They can be a tad difficult to control, going on too heavy sometimes.

Looks really nice so far. I need to get me one these kits someday. I used a variety of pastels on my ProSop X-Wing with great results. It was practice for me when I build something bigger. Just remember to seal the pastels with a clear flat paint after applying them so you don't rub them off.
