I just noticed in the attached pic that the X-Wing pilots are wearing their flightsuits out of their boots, covering them.
Is that the only scene where they do that ?

I think the reason they did that is all of those crowd scene extras have different types of black boots on-- not enough budget left at that point to buy that many pairs of matching flight boots!!
