X-Wing Helmet.

Thought I'd like to share one of my first props put together by me rather than someone else.

Still got the weathering to do, although I do like it in it's clean state.

I put a few personal touches in to the helmet like the padded interior and the quick release buckle on the chin strap.

Here's a couple more.

All painting is done with Halfords auto paints.

I'm pretty pleased how it's turned out. Now looking to do a Biggs version, but a bit concerned about all that paint masking!

Thanks for your positive comments, guys.

I've hung around the RPF for a long time looking at other peoples' awesome work, but never really had the guts to put any of my own stuff on the board.

I'm really pleased that all the painstaking masking and pin-striping paid off and that people like what I've done.

Unfortunately I now have to dirty the whole thing up:cry

Why? Maybe yours is the just-off-the-shelf version. There's no rule that things have to be weathered.

I know exactly what you are saying, Cayman, and the more I look at the thing, the less I want to mess up all that hard work.

The alternative is to do a dirty version, using my other kit, and display them together.

Do you have other helmets? Are they all pristine? All weathered? A mix? If you have others displayed and this was the only non-weathered, it'd display funny, but if your others are shiny as well or if you have a mix, then what the heck, leave it be, right?

I have to say, Cayman, I am a bit of a clean freak- Novus 1,2 and 3 seem to be my best friends at the moment:lol

My snowtrooper oufit doesn't have an ounce of dirt on it (including the boots) and my TKs and Vader are so shiney you can see your face in them.

The only weathering I have is Fett (done very nicely by BM himself), but you REALLY couldn't have a clean Fett.

So maybe you are right and I will keep the X-Wing helmet clean, kinda like it's just been picked up from the Quartermasters!!

I usually weather my stuff to cover my multiple screw ups. I'm a clean freak too, but my inability to paint means I've got to start scuffing away! :lol

Dirty may look more realistic, but pristine gives the collection a nice museum quality. And it really is a hell of a nice helmet.

Very awesome! I'm actually going to be starting on a papercraft X-wing helmet soon, but I don't know what scale to make it. How tall would you say yours is?

Thanks for your kind comments, Risu. I'd love to see how yours turns out-hopefully you'll be posting pictures.

Measurement from the bottom of the helmet to the top of the mohawk is approximately 30cm.
Width is approx. 26cm at the widest point.
Front oo back is approx. 29cm.

Hope that helps

Thanks! That's just a hair larger than the scaling on this file and the this one has a much shorter mohawk, so the bucket size is probably just about equal.

Man that helmet came out really nice. I'm 90% done with mine right now, I just need to add a touch more pinstriping and some paint on the front of the mohawk, and then...the weathering.

I am just as torn as you are to dirty the thing up, until I came across this thought.

The thing that makes the Star Wars universe in the movies believable is that it has a history. Everything is not sparkling and new, it is old and beat up, used, lived-in, etc. Especially the rebellion gear/equipment. Much more earthy and used.

So, I am going to dirty mine up so that it looks lived in just like the rebel gear in the films.

Excellent Job!

Is there another thread on the construction process?

I sure would like to know how you put the thing together. :)

Missleman, do you already have a kit or partially completed helmet? We'll need to know that before we can tell you how to assemble it.
