X-Men First Class Movie Discussion

What I want to know is how did the X-men get off the beach? I mean, they're still surrounded by two fleets of ships that surely have more missles on board. It's not like they're going to say "Hey can we get a ride?"

Also, Mystique is Nightcrawlers mom, sure, but is the red guy his dad? I'm having trouble remembering what his story is from the comics/tv show. If he is, Mystique sure is a ho-bag.

As a retired X-Men reader, the only "con-" word that applies to their plots is "Convoluted".

I went into the flick looking at it as a stand along thing. I knew there was no way they were going to be able to spin ANYTHING out of the mess they had made with X-3 and Origins.

They even smile at each other a bit.

Sad yes. Bitter ? Nah.

Man, if only there was some emotional concept that combined bitter sadness and the sweetness of a smile ... OH, WAIT! Did I accidently uncover a genuine moment?!

Yes, in the comics Azazel is Nightcrawler's father. He's also the proverbial 'bad guy', in the comics he was a demon rather than a mutant. I could see Nightcrawler being a product of a rape... which would explain why Azazel is nowhere to be seen and not mentioned in the other x-movies if this is, in fact, a prequel. Erik would kill him for doing that. It would also explain why Mystique doesn't really acknowledge or speak to Nightcrawler except when he approaches her directly (again, if it is, in fact, a prequel).

Personally, I'd be okay with them pulling a terminator on this and making it a prequel, but disregarding the trainwreck of X3.

Joking aside, you did imo.

That's what the end captured, and that's exactly what made me see this 'gap' vis-a-vis the following X-Men movies.

I really enjoyed the film.

It's neck and neck with X2 as my favorite of the series.

With that said, the few things that disappointed me were:

1. Lack of accents, Moria MacTaggert is Scottish and Sean Cassidy is Irish.

2. The love story between Xavier and MacTaggert could have been a tad stronger. It was barely there.

3. Thought the whole "mutant and proud" thing was silly, especially at the end. Lame and poor dialogue writing. Way too heavy handed.

4. I wish they would have fully explained where the Magneto helmet came from, what kind of metal it's made out of and how it blocks out telepaths?

5. I wanted more Magneto and the other mutants at the end actually doing something at the end not just a last frame reveal. Bit of a cop out. Hopefully, there will be a direct sequel and we'll see this. X-Men in the 70s would be awesome.

Again, just little things that bothered me.

But overall, awesome.

I re-watched X-Men and X2 just after seeing this one in the movies. It is true there is no real scene between the two - Mystique and Xavier - First Class just added SO MUCH to X-Men and in X2 and the only scene where they are actually together, when Magneto reverts Cerebro2 to attack humans and Mystique gets the illusionist mutant to get Charles to target humans I was miffed that only Magneto showed any friendship bonds with Charles... but, knowing real life and what fanaticism can do to someone, I began thinking why only Erik showed regret when leaving Charles basically to his death (or... to be saved by his students once he'd killed off all humans) and I just assumed that Mystique was so far into her conviction that she no longer acknowledged her past with Charles and what he tried to do. Sure, this could be a leap... but it feels right... and it gives the impression that a lot of bad **** has happened to Mystique since she left Charles and his ideology on that beach in First Class.

The reason why I mentioned it in the first place is that come to think of it, it is a HUGE gap. That's what has been nagging at the back of my head.

In 1st Class, they emphasised the relationship ALOT. Then in the other X-Men ..... zilch.

Not even a hint.

The script-writers didn't do a very good job there.

... again, only there.

Rest was great !

Sabastian analyzed Emma's ability, Russians manipulated it, and made the helmet... Only way i see it.... Anyone else?

It's to be taken as a fact with no more info I suppose, "Something the Russians made for me". Nothing else.

We're lucky the writers even gave it a summed up backstory. The continuity gap in relationship is big if you let it become that. I just take it as conviction, as someone put it best.

I think thats a fair enough way to put it. Remember the biggest majority of people are idiots, if they had went into detail it would have been wasted screen time with alot of people scratching their heads not knowing what they are on about.

Considering in comparison that all the previous films are seriously lacking compared to first class, I will let the small bits that fall out of continuity slide. (I dont class X3 or wolvering as even being films, so dont care about continuity errors with them).

I personally was disappointed in this movie, the only bit i did actually enjoy was the recruitment montage.

That's more explanation than they gave for the helmet in the comics, as far as I can remember. Why do people get upset when every little detail isn't spoon fed to them?
