X-men: First Class costumes?

Thanks Nick. I wanted to add what they just had to say about out costumes/suits in question:



"ESQ: Speaking of suits, glad to see the superhero suits are a bit less leather-y this time around.

SS:Without question, the "X-Suits" are the most difficult thing. We took references from NASA and the military uniforms from the early sixties. And Matthew wanted me to be faithful to the blue and yellow in the first comic books. We researched it and found out they would have been made from Kevlar, created in 1962 by Dupont, but we couldn't use it because the material didn't do what we needed."

off-topic: on that close-up of Beast, they did a phenominal job on his fur. And I may be most partial to his suit as well. Not really diggin' the super tall collars.


Nick, you may be on the right path of a thick nylon/synthetic weave. I see what you mean as you can see what looks like fibers and it being interlocked. It's not a tight weave as it's suppose to reporduce what they wanted Kevlar to act. I also want to agree with rip-stop fabic. Those are some super-sized squear patterns and remind me of the pattern on Riddick's pants in his last film.
So we have a much tougher find on our hands now, that we know everything was completey custom.

I'd bet they used a pretty low Denier fabric whether nylon or cordura. heavier denier is thicker and doesn't conform as well to shapes or patterns, ie those little port hole thingamajigs pictured above and how the fabric lays over the outer ridges, I'd say that's probably between a 300-600 denier? I could be completely wrong though.
 
I just returned from viewing it. Absolutely marvelous. 9/10, losing one point for the first and foremost complaint I'll ever have, lack of character accents. But beyond that, this film for my taste was so wonderfully enjoyable. It got so many reactions from me, laughter, cringing, and even tears. Fassbender's performance is something I've stood by since the beginning, and he was far greater than I ever could have imagined. While it did have some flaws, the film as a whole I absolutely adore. And if anything, I want more. I'm sorry that some characters may have gotten the shaft, and I wish we could have seen more of them. I just want more. I hope this is the start of something great, that could become something astonishing.
 
I'd love to see all of the costumes made, as they are all slightly differ to suit the character's needs. Banshee was pretty badass, btw. ;)
 
Just read an interview with the costume designer. They didn't say what the fabric was, but they were going for a Kevlar look. In the movie, it looked like it moved better than Cordura, though it looks like a great alternative.
 
They even mention in the film to the affect of toughness/bulletproof. So indeed it's suppose to mock Kevlar. But the thick weave may ver well be cordura.
 
Jleezy might be onto something lol instead of busting my ass for expensive materials that may not be right that we know of yet, maybe experimenting with cheaper materials is a way to go. I might head over to the store and pick up some cheap Sweats in yellow and blue, and do a cheap expeirmental sweat-version xD

10 bucks is a great price for a base of a budget suit haha! Gotta see if my wal marts have one and try some stuff out on it haha. That Faded Glory shirt on that page would be a great Shah Safari look-alike shirt too

^^ the silver weave looks close, have to special order yellow. Wonder if they can get the right shade of yellow... There's similar fabrics just to the left column, but not the far left one

Just saw the movie, wanted a costume, and found this forum. So... hi!

Doing some research, I think the nylon weave would work. I've also looked into 'spacer mesh' which is also known as air mesh or 3D mesh. Basically what is used in lining backpack straps or car seats. So far no luck coming across yellow material that would work.

Really interested in getting this costume, but man it seems almost impossible!



Edit: Found this! (first listing down on the page and a few more down that might work) It might be a bit too tough for fabric use, though. This site has a ton of stuff I think could be used!
