Alien Stiletto (or gimlet weapon)

does anyone have a source for these?

I think someone was trying to reproduce a working version of the stiletto awhile back. not sure how it went...

I made 3d printed versions a couple years ago (with metal needles). No spring action, but the needle was retractable manually. There wasn't any interest when I tried to get a run going. I was also toying with the idea of printing functional versions using only plastic to keep them legal, but I never did anything with that idea.

Sad. So few X-files props out there. The Stiletto is a tough nut to crack. It's been toyed with a few times in metal but the legality was tricky and prohibitively expensive for a functioning one from the one guy I contacted who was doing them.

A 3D printed one would be really cool. Maybe a metal tube but plastic "functioning" components? Something to think about...

Printing in metal would cost too much. I suspect that a run of machined aluminum ones wouldn't fly either due to the complexities of the mechanism and the precision required. You also have issues with legality world-wide (different laws everywhere). There would be a lot of R&D to make it happen and I kinda doubt the effort-reward ratio would add up.

I'm still a little interested in seeing if I could pull a working one off in all-plastic. Might have to concede the screen-accuracy a tad though as I suspect the body would need to be a little thicker.

Total machined aluminum working replica has been done but it was insanely expensive and I forget where the guy was out of or how/if he complied with any laws.

The amount of R&D required to make it all work either out of plastic, metal, toothpicks, etc would be a labor of love. More for the love of the prop than for making money.

while a working one would be very cool to have, i doubt it will be done as the law about flick knives would make it a hard sell. i would like to have the handle with the spike removable for display. why cant some one make a simple metal prop that can be displayed? it is one of the most iconic X Files items and would sell especially as the show is coming back in January.

I've exchanged e-mails about this with people from TheRPF in the past.

I have several of these. Here is a link to one of them:

I really cannot disclose any details except that it has functionality, but it doesn't break any OTF blade laws. With a little tweaking it could be used as a weapon, but in it's current state it can't be used as a weapon. It is perfectly suited for X-Files fan videos which could show the blade open and close at the push of a button. The material is stainless steel. Lots of work went into this, and money, and time. Lots of trial and error. I have tons of 2D drawings for each part as well as a variety of 3D files in different formats.

Like it says on my page, it is not for sale. There is only one person I helped create this, and that's a good friend of mine, Brian Terranova.

He posts on this board as Terrasolo. Perhaps he can put up a picture of his stiletto in this thread. His handle is made from aluminum and the overall design is just a little different than mine. He is also in the process of getting a second one made with slightly different functionality.

I need to finally put up a video on YouTube to show it in action.

BTW... if you search my posts on this forum you will find a post where I talk about this prop being definitely longer than 6 inches. This was a loooong time ago where I didn't even begin to do my research about it. That being said, after so many years I can finally retract that statement.
