First off, mods, please move this if it's in the wrong forum as it touches on everything from costuming to props. Personally, I didn't know WHERE the hell to put it! :lol
I've been working on a Wyatt Earp costume for a while and it's almost finished. But now I'm stuck. Where do I where it???
The reason I started it to begin with is because I love the movie Tombstone (my costume is based on Kurt Russell's) and I love the Wyatt Earp mythos...I simply couldn't stay away. I've spent a pretty good chunk of change on it with no regrets. I LOVE how it's turning out. But now, just before I spend the last few bucks to finish it I'm starting to wonder what to do with it? Yes, it will be displayed in my home but I would actually like to wear it. Anybody have any ideas were?

i cant wait to see pics of this thing... i love that kindof dress. if you're a church person, that would be a good place... minus sidearm, naturally...
or, you could always join SASS and go hang out with others who love the old west and period clothing. they have events in every state.

Anywhere you want...

Obviously there are the conventions if you want to blend in a little better as not being the only weirdo dressed up. However, I've actually worn Victorian clothes in public for no particualr reason than the fact that I like them, and folks just thought I was a snappy dresser.

I'd go to one of those Old Fashioned studios wearing it and get some photos done. There is always Old Tucson Studios (where they filmed Tombstone btw) THAT is a fun place if you like western movies. I have this real eccentric side of me and if I'm in the mood I'll don a costume and just hang out somewhere. Used to do the Darth Maul makeup and hangout at the Star Trek Experience just to down a few pints.

If you're a fan of the movie Tombstone sounds to me like you need to plan a roadtrip to Arizona. Check their schedule sometimes they're filming and they do use the people visiting as extras. We missed being in Tombstone by a week. After that I always called to see if they were filming.

SASS all the way. You can join as a historical figure and you get to shoot (and eat BBQ, and look at the nice ladies in the corsets... :love )

Whats cool is you don't have to shoot competition, but it is an all around hoot. Kinda like Ren Fair, but old west. Looking to get into SASS myself but I gotta save the money for the four guns (Carbine, shotgun, and 2 single action pistols).

SASS is a good one. You may also want to look into the RGA (Reeactment Guild of America) and you may want to check out this site to see if there is a group in your area.

In addition to this, come on out to Tombstone itself for Wyatt Earp Days or Helldorado and you will be welcome by all with open arms.

Looking forward to seeing pics. My Johnny Ringo is still in the works altough it was put on the backburner for quite a while. Really looking forward to getting that one finished up!

where wouldn't you wear it?!
But really, I'd say start going to old west shows. Just about every place has some group of western reinactors where you see gunfights or there are old west type towns and what not.
Try talking a local movie theater into playing a midnight showing of Tombstone!! Then you have your own venue, heh.
Otherwise any Con

Holy crap! I didn't know there were so many options!
Art, you, me and Planojedi all need together as he has a SERIOUSLY accurate Doc Holiday outfit.
Wouldn't we be a sight? Doc, Wyatt and Johnny just hanging out next to a Stormtrooper! :lol

im a butcher at a local grocery store, and at least once a week i see a mid 40's black man, with a beard and handlebar mustache, dressed up in victorian/20's era clothes, complete with hat and pocket watch on a chain/tie, and vest. its just the way he dresses i would assume. yeah its a little different, but i give him props for dressing that way, i know i would if i had the clothes for it.

a more distinguished gentleman, from a more distingushed time.

we always used to nod/tip the hat at each other, because we both had handlebar mustaches, which i always thought was awesome, since its not something you see every day, let alone on a man that could pass as mr.T, or kimbo slice

I have tons of info for you as I do SASS, and had an 1870's Wedding, but without pics of your rig or duds, can't tell you much.

When you say Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp - are you talking Movie Costumes or Historically Accurate? They are two entirely different things.

It's all I wear if I have to wear a suit, and all I play in on stage anymore. Switch out a vest and hat and you have a Victorian get up and on and on. 5 articles of clothing can make 15 different suits.

Laffo.

Well, I don't recommend that you "where it" at all, but you certainly could WEAR it to any number of conventions!! :)

Seriously though, I imagine that any western clothing isn't the type of thing you just wear out on the street. I would say wear it when you are SUPPOSED to wear costums; halloween and costume parties. Other than that, it probably belongs on a mannequin in your house! :) I can't wait to see pics.

His first post said it's based on Kurt Russel from the Tombstone movie, so he probably couldn't get in with a reinactment group, unless it's movie style.

Hey, I'm down! You tell me when and where. You tell 'em I'm coming...and Hell's coming with me! :)

Seriously, I wear the shirt, vest and tie out a lot. Especially if youare going to a formal event. It all fits right in.
