WorldCon mods to my Off-World blaster - BLADE RUNNER

Hey all, thought I'd share a few shots of my current work in progress. My personal life has been a little nuts lately, so fiddling with this replica has been a nice escape. This blaster is an early version from Off-World (recent purchase from Mike J.) with a number of metal upgrades. Because it's a older model, it's also missing some details out of the box. No problem, that just meant a little more work.

I have a pro-retailer Tomenosuke, as well as a few other M2019's. Since this is a cheaper prop, I wanted to weather it similarly to the WorldCon version. I love that look and the heavy wear, but couldn't bring myself to beat up the Tomenosuke, haha.

I stripped and refinished the upper parts, added a 5th red LED, added cylinder wires, added the side nuts/bolts, then weathered and repainted the whole thing.

So, here she is. I still have a few pieces of hardware to change, and I'm waiting on a second green LED for the cylinder side. Inspired by others here, I also whipped up an ammo box and a WorldCon tag. I could see myself making small adjustments on this thing for a long time.

Now I'm still fairly newbie when it comes to these blasters, but that is probably the best Off-World blaster that I have ever seen.

This is a genuinely amazing transformation. I have the first version of the Off World and have never liked its pearlescent paint job. This is a tempting project at some point. Great work.

Truly stunning work! What method did you use to strip the receiver if you don't mind me asking?

Beautiful example of the gun we love. I like the fact that you've added the box of cartridges also!

Good to see you in this neck of the woods! Thanks for the feedback.

I sanded, followed by more sanding, and then even more sanding. haha.

I worked from heavy grit to fine grit, eventually finishing with 2000. It gives a nice not-so-scratchy finish if you work horizontally. I then weathered the raw receiver, and laid down a thin, smooth layer of gloss clear coat.

A word of advice though. I put a small crack in my receiver ( thin joint under the cocking lever) which had to be repaired. It's an easy mistake to make given how much elbow grease the sanding takes. In the end it was repaired without issue, but don't make my mistake!

Sweet! Thanks for the tips!

I still can't get over how well you matched the receiver to the bolt and lever. On my Off World at least, the bolt and lever are plastic. That's been my biggest hold up with tearing into it. Well, that and the 10,000 other projects I also have in progress. Haha

My cocking lever is also plastic. I plan to upgrade it eventually, but it's fine for now.

I finally got around to working on a resin weaver knob for this prop. Still considering getting a real metal one down the road, we'll see. Really happy with it for now.

Looks great. I really need to build my Coyle blaster. Definitely like the ammo box. Would you have a printable copy of that?

Thanks guys.

This design was actually inspired by another member's white/red layout. I do still have my version of the label around. Let me dig up the file.
