Working on a DALEK. Finished the dome lights. MAY 18th 2011

Re: Working on a DALEK.

Great work so far!

I was planning on building a Dalek once, but as available space was a factor I opted for the R2 in my avatar instead.

.. Every time I see a Dalek build in progress I get the itch to tackle one myself though, so thanks for that! :)

Re: Working on a DALEK.

Looking good! How do you plan to do the surface of the dome?

I am not sure yet, I am just building this with whatever I can find laying around the houseand yard. SO the hunt begins tomorrow..

Thans for all the kind words yet again guys..

Re: Working on a DALEK.

Hmmmmmm good technical piece BUT why are you using that sorta wood, man? Its affecting the surface finish. Why not use plywood or something smoother. You are never gonna get this thing smooth using that technic:rolleyes

Re: Working on a DALEK.

I'm on a very low budget, basicaly nothing.. Unemployed stay at home dad. I am using what i can find, and this thing is only for my kids to play with. it is not going on display or anything, and who said I was going for a smooth finish, a damaged beat up dalek looks cool.

Anyway thanks for all the kind words. when i buil my showcase piece I will use better material. But for a kids play thing this will do fine.

Re: Working on a DALEK.

If it's a kids toy you'll want LOTS of padding inside as well as maybe rigging up a fan or something to keep air flowing. Junk PC parts usually make for easy cooling systems.

Re: Working on a DALEK.

You're a front-runner for "Dad of the Year" once this is finished.:thumbsup

Thanks guys.
My son has already put in his order for a K-9 and a cyberman, My little girls want me to build a Amy and Rose,,, (oh I wish I could) not sure the wife would mind thought!!...
Going to build a thomas train for my youngest aswell.

Thanks for the tips, I plan on putting a fan inside for sure, I would die without a fan in my clone helmet.

Heres an updated pic, started working on the ball joints of the arms and the gun arm today.

This is why stay at home dads are awesome. :D

Looks fantastic!

Re: Working on a DALEK.

Even rough the gun arm looks good. Can't wait to see that with a finished paint job.

Re: Working on a DALEK.

Are your kids going to ride inside it? If so then you should have a nerf gun hooked up for the gun arm, they would love it. :D
