Gone but not forgotten.
Wonderfestival is a great time - you get to see a slew of kits toys and customs that are as rare as they are fleeting. The items for sale are only available for one day - if you don't get it then, there is a slim to none chance you will ever see it again. The modelers are masters at what they do and the put a lot of time and care into these kits. Ii thought I'd post some pics of what was offered and the fun to be had if you find yourself in Tokyo in the summer.

Just a small section of the line twisting into the hall. We were at least 3 block away from the entrance, but once the line starts to more - you are inside within 15 min. Organization is the key -

Inside the hall B (there are 3). Not comic con - but plenty to see.

Macross 1/1 scale helmets - sold out before I could even get there. You have to move fast!
IMG_0038.jpg

Plenty of Evangelion - the new movie was playing at the theatre so the kits were everywhere - including a helmet you can wear

Lupin the 3rd and the Castle of Cagliostro - this thing was so cool. I rotocast of the castle including the clock tower and the sunken treasure. I am a huge Lupin fan so I had to have one.

Ultraman - plenty to get if you are a fan (which if you know me...) I opened my wallet and dumped out the contents over and over again.

This is just a taste of being there. It is a really fun place to grab some unique items - and the people are the nicest in the world.

I remember the awesome model gun displays Poseidon used to have at the Tokyo Toy Show. Tons of awesome stuff.

We're going again in Feb - we vend, so I get to do the forbidden "dealer dash" that everyone does ;)

So how was Makuhari as a venue, as opposed to Big Sight? I know it's harder to get to (relative term), but a better layout?

This was my kit (sold via friends, since we're hitting the town in November, we couldn't afford to go this past July), as painted up by my buddy Linc.

Nice stuff Paul! Great pics. I love those minikits too! So cool.

Also enjoyed seeing the TohoScope shirt on your son!! Awesome!

Darth Ultraman Maul looks pretty cool. :lol

The irony about me is that while I would love to attend this event, I wouldn't, really, buy anything. I love to see people's work, and I would pay to see them, but I hardly, ever, buy anything....I would, however, consider the bike convention kit. Sweet pics.

Exactly! This is a pretty funny story. This is the third time my son and I have attended, so unable to read the front of our ticket book, we assumed it was at Big Site again - we got up at 6am and took a cab over - were dropped off then noticed - there was no line! We then had to take a cab ride all the way out to Makuhari - which wasn't cheap, but well worth it. Loads better with the three halls spaced out.

Agreed! I know you said they were sold out before you got the chance, but I'm curious. How much were they in US funds?

400bucks - not too bad. I know there was something offered to get 50bucks off if you filled out some form, but there was no chance of me being able to do that.

Looks like fun, JB. One more thing to save money for. I wanted to go to Tokyo this year for gits and shiggles. My car however, had other plans.

That's awesome. I'll miss Big Sight if it's going to stay at Makuhari from here on out, but then again, I don't like to hear about escalator accidents, lol!

The Godzilla heads that shoot "smoke" have been there before. I bet I can get one for someone in February if they are still being sold.

Man, truly awesome stuff.

I really love that Cagliostro Castle. Now, I need to go find one. >.<

Yeah - i was there when that happened. i will say that even with the spaciousness of the new place, I missed Big Site as well. i just wish they would put some chairs here and there - chairs and trash cans are the rarest things in Tokyo.

What is up with that?! I walked around with an empty tea bottle for what seemed like miles, every day we were there, looking for a trash can! I guess because they hyper-recycle? I like the trash can "depot" at McDonalds thta has a hole for paper, plastics, ice/liquids, solids, etc. It was like a psych test!

Thank's for posting the cool pictures from your trip it look's like you and your son had a good time.I would have bought all the Harlock gun's,can those be bought some where online?
