I just noticed David is offering his X1 and X2 jackets in the Junkyard. What do you guys think? I'm going for an X1.

New Info as of 4/13/07

Here are the prototype jackets. There are some minor adjustments to make to both of them and under each one I'll explain what's needed.

X1 $405.00 USD plus shipping..see below.
X2 $455.00 USD plus shipping..see below.

The leather is thick, but very pliable. Both are made from cow hide and it's got a great soft feel to it even though it's thick.

I dont know what colors you'll see on your monitors but I can say this, the mustard/gold is identical to the screen used jacket. I had a swatch of the leather cut from one of these and matched it up 100%. Of course, that's the clean look and unweathered. Once these are weathered, used and distressed a bit they'll start to come into their own and look exactly like the screen used jacket. The dark brown color is also really really really close to the original and will weather easily. It's not a harsh pigment or tint. I designed it to naturally allow it to fade into the desired screen used look...but I wont rip off one of the arm bands...you'll have to do that yourself if you want to..:)
-The fit on my prototype is a little baggy in the prototype. The back needs to be pinched to fit right and I've already modified the paper patterns to respect that in all sizes. The sleeves are fine and the length of the jacekt will be a little shorter also. As a result the incline of the waist stripe will be adjusted a bit to give it a slighter diagonal dip.

Jacket Number 1 is $405.00 USD + $40.00 USD for shipping. Shipping covers getting the jackets from Italy to me, then to you.

The base of the jacket is the same thick yet soft cow hide as the first jacket. Same dark brown color also. The mustard/gold color is now in suede and a perfect match to the color as well. I know a few of you have asked to make it more yellow in color, but what I'm showing on my prototype is what I'm delivering. It's meant to be the same color as the first jacket so that's exactly what I've done in suede. What is missing here is the rib line with double stitching that sourrounds both the sleeve area and waist area of the burgundy suede color. That was missed in the prototype but already noted for the production.
As for the fit, same axact concerns as the first jacket and will be taken in repectively.

Jacket Numer 2 is $455.00 USD + 40.00 USD for shipping. Shipping covers getting the jackets from Italy to me, then to you.

I HOPE MY PREVIOUS WORK DONE TO DATE WILL BE ENOUGH FOR YOU GUYS TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH GETTING ON BOARD WITHOUT ME HAVING TO MAKE NEW PROTOTYPES. I've been making leather garments for a long time. Prototypes can and will have areas that need to be adjusted but considering how minor they are I really dont want to put this off another month or more just to make new prototypes to show the new corrections when I already know how straight forward they will be to do. So, a leap of faith here?? I dont know...you guys tell me.

I plan to take payments until Firday May 4th. At that time I total the jackets and sizes and start producing. turnaround time is 8 weeks after so plenty of time for Dragon Con.

I'll take paypal or Money Orders but paypal only from confirmed address accounts.
All sizes are available and will be ready with the size chart in a few days. Those who commit to this will be sent the size chart so they can determine what size they need and then we'll be able to start.

I want to start getting an idea of who'd be potentially interested in this. My prototype is almost ready. I screwed up the collar and am currently redoing it but I'll post the finished pics in a day or so. Just reply here if you think this is for you. No need for PM's or emails yet. :)

Also, I'm not looking for anyone to commit to this just yet. Just hollar if you think you'd like to own one. That'll help me finalize the price based on interest. I'm hoping to keep them pretty 'easy' priced for this design, and as usual all my garments are scratch built from the ground up.
No off the shelf modifying what so ever.

Based on the possible interest I'll know how much raw material to prep and basically be able to price it out at that point.

Like I said above, for now I only posted this 3/4 back pic because I goofed the collar. I'm currently changing it and once it's ready I'll post more.

Dont be alarmed by the shiny nature of the skin. It's mostly the camera flash and it's also the prototype.

Just remember...weathering is everything for this to look like what you've all seen on screen. Right now it looks so 'new' that it's a far distance from the movie look...but some distressing, aging and weathering should do the trick just fine. Oh, and tearing off one of the arm stips will help too.....

Chime in if you think you'd like to wear one of these. I'll be able to price it accordingly then and I'm guessing it should be pretty affordable for an Italian Leather Jacket. :) The more the merrier...and the lower the price goes.

I just started a thread on this in the Costuming section for critiques and suggestions. I'd like to keep this for potential interest.

More to come. I'm almost ready with it. :)

David

Hey Knightsaber, what jacket length did you decide on for your front a back measurements on your vanson?

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

No, the actual jacket length in back and front on your vanson measurements sheet... Or did you leave those blank?

OK, I gotcha. I actually just used Vanson's sizing chart and got my jacket size from there. Standard size 42 fits just right, I do believe. I'm 6'0" with a 41"-42" chest if that helps for reference.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

Aaaah well thanks anyway... Not a big deal, I think the jacket cut determines the lengths anyway.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

Well I happened to go out to Wested to look up some sizing dimensions on Indy Jackets, and it looks like they're reworking some website stuff.
So just for the heck of it I went trolling and no more Wolverine jacket under famous filmware, but if you do their search there's a Wolverine X3 link for purchasing... looks like they may have something ready soon on that version.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

Soooo, just have a question about a jacket you guys mentioned here and there. What's the quality like on the P and D jackets? Not looking to be super screen accurate so dont' worry about that. I'm just wondering how the jacket is put together. I think the shape of the P and D would fit me much better than the others, not to mention the price. Can someone post a pic or two of their own P and D? Looking at the X1 version, but any jacket pics made by P and D would do.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

I got P&D started on their Wolverine jackets, and had the first X1 for a little while before selling it do to my desire for the details to be correct. I'll try to dig up pics, but I may have deleted them...
Their X1 is very thick and tough, but they lack the leather experience of the better Vansons and Wested and such, so it isn't put together nearly as well as the higher priced makers and feels very unfinished/rough. The pocket stitching on the front is probably the most annoying detail to most people.
Their X3 version is made of very thin/lightweight lambskin... I haven't had this particular jacket but have had another version of it made the same way. It's more finished feeling than the X1 and has instant break-in time...But the leather feels weak to me, and I don't like the feel of the jacket on a whole.

For the money they are ok jackets though if you're on a tight budget...but they definitely aren't the "last jacket you will buy" kind of quality and detail that other higher priced jackets are. As long as you keep that in mind you will probably enjoy them just fine.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

David,..

Will you be dong a 2nd Run of X-2's...???

I missed th 5/4 Cut off..

Plus I need to Generate the $ 455.00 + Frt. $$$

I just noticed David is offering his X1 and X2 jackets in the Junkyard. What do you guys think? I'm going for an X1.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

Just a heads up, Wested's website now has pics and a price up for their version of the X3 jacket (145 pounds plus shipping; thanks to THEMAN for bringing it up originally). They also still have the X1 listed, so I'm not sure why it was initially taken down when they were adding the X3.

I took a brief look at the X3, and it seems to be the same as the "prototype" version we saw earlier in the thread. The arm stripes are definitely too low, among other problems mentioned.

Just putting that out there for people still looking for an X3.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

You beat me to it MD! I'm sorry that Wested didn't go by the details I sent them months ago for doing their X3... they would've had something pretty decent, but now they just have their incorrect X1 with incorrect X3 stripes on the sleeves.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

Haha, your bump LogansRunner was the 777th reply to the original post in this thread (on 7-7-07).:lol Well, I guess that's not as amusing as I orginally thought it was, but still interesting.

Anyway, I'll be getting a p&d collection version of the X1 jacket in a couple of weeks and will post pics if anyone is interested. This will be my first venture into costuming, so I figure it was a nice enough coat for the price.

Re: Wolverine's Jackets

If you wouldn't mind, DW, I would like to see pics of the P&D once you get yours. Someone selling their P&D jacket on the Bay posted some different pictures than P&D's standard ones, and the jacket looked to be very shiny in those pictures. I'm not sure if it was the lighting or what, but I'd just like to get a good look at it. Thanks much.
