Wolverine's Jackets

Gents, I am going to hold my tongue (mostly) so as not to make people feel bad about their purchases but these vanson jackets look pretty willy nilly to me. I am sorry to say...gold in the zippers? Triangles that don't taper correctly? What the hell?????

I think they have lost the old pattern, I am sorry to say.
[/b]

Well, yes I guess the waist stripes are too fat. I noticed it too, but I thought it might just be me being paranoid. Guess not. I too have thought that the original, or at least the correct pattern had been lost...However, I will not settle with anything less than an accurate Wolverine jacket. I received an email back from Vanson. The woman (Anne) said that she printed off my email and the pictures that I sent and left it on Mike's (my salesman) desk. He should contact me tomorrow, and if not then I will contact him. My plan is to get all of the correct details down and back to when Dawn used to be there. It would be one thing if I knew nothing about the jacket, but I have done my research and have numerous pictures for reference. I'm gonna make sure this works.

At this point, I'd say ordering from Wested would be the best resort. I'd use the color they use on their Indiana Jones jackets to make a Wolverine one. I wish Wested were taking the details with more concern. Perhaps, they feel making flaws on purpose steers them away from legal drama.

I think the same thing, they seem happy to say they're making alterations for you, but dont seem to make them, I had a talk with them earlier about ordering another that was an undistressed version with slightly darker stripes. I also brought up the X3 version. I was told they could probably exchange the centre arm stripe for a blue one if needed, but they'd have to check. I dont think they want to make an entirely new jacket available for what they see as minimal differences.

Anyways I asked about another X1 with the colours changed and was pretty much told not to bother. It would appear that they are the same leather as the Indiana Jones jackets, just well weathered. I was told to just give it a few goes over with some leather feed and here's how she's looking:

Keep in mind this is only the first go, so there's some uneven patches, but it gives a rough idea.

Failing any other option, I think thats what I'll do, just to make sure it's completely different from from this one if nothing else

G-Devil,

That's looking pretty good so far.

What kind of leather feed are you using? Is this a certain type of oil treatment for weatherproofing?

Yeah, I may still bug Wested a bit more on the X3 version as well, the changes are really easy so I don't see the big deal with getting them done. Hopefully as more requests come in they'll be more inclined soon. Be a shame for them to miss out on the costuming season that's about to hit. :)

Okay, I spoke with my Vanson salesman today and he laid it all out for me. The wolf jackets were originally supposed to be made in Walnut which is made with the MI 9 leather. He told me that currently, MI 9 is extremely hard to come by and even the shoe companies are having trouble getting it. In response to this shortage, vanson has started offering the Wolf jacket in octagon instead. He said that overtime, the oils in the leather will settle and darken leaving a color closer to that of the movie jacket. However, he also told me that he realizes I want the jacket in a dark brown right from the start. SO, he said I can send it back and get a credit for the jacket cost. He's also going to send me a swatch kit that I can choose a color from. I'm hoping that all of this works out without any further problems. From my conversation, he seems to be very understanding of my position and willing to work hard to get me what I want.
We also spoke about the original jacket and what the studio guys did to give it the appearance in the film. I already knew all of what he told me, but he also said that Vanson has a Wolverine jacket that they have beaten up and thrown around to try and make it look like it did in the movie. I thought that was pretty interesting. Things are looking better than before, I just have to stay no top of it.

Hey, G-devil, that Wested looks pretty sweet with the darker colors. I definitely like it better than its original form.
LogansRunner, why don't you see if PD can make a slight mod to the stripes to make them only go half way around. Would add just a little touch for better accuracy.

I can try asking P&D but when I tried accessing their site yesterday it was still under construction, I'll try annd look for their email on ebay. Also, I think I should find a pic that shows the stripes good to send with the message so they know what I'm talking about, but if anyone has a good pick I can send with the message that would be great, as I wouldn't have to look for one. :p

Wait, so they assumed we would be just as happy with a color we didn't ordered? The reason why we want this jacket is because of how it looks in the damn movie. If this leather is so difficult to get, offer another kind of leather without sacrificing the original color. Are you telling me MI 9 is the only leather in the world that comes in dark brown/Walnut? They could had notified us before paying them, "uh, BTW, we can't get the color you want. We can get you octagon. Is that cool?"

So, what's gonna happen after you get the samples? I mean, what do you need the samples for if you already know the color you want? You want dark brown or walnut, right? Unless you are going with some other distant color, I don't see the point of getting the samples, other than to buy Vanson some time. Am I missing something?

Thanks man, that was the exact pic I was looking for, I'll try and contact them by the nights end.
EDIT: Is there any other changes I should bring up?

What's P&D's email? I can't contact them on ebay as I don't have an ID, and I couldn't find any email written in their ebay profile, or on the auction page..

Crap, I deleted all the email I had with them once I went on with Wested, I'll have to try and dig it up...

I have this one other wolve style jacket I snagged a while back because it reminds me of the revenge game jacket a little...

Now that I got a decent Wested, decided to let this one go too, it's out on the bay for sale...

I talked to Vanson again this morning. I was told that the actual movie jackets WERE octagon leather. And when the studio guys sand blasted and beat it up, it caused the darkening as the finish was taken off. Now I'm not too sure if I can swallow that story because this picture says otherwise.

I know that's the prototype, but I don't think they would have changed the leather color for the final movie jacket. That's definitely not the same redish/rust octagon color of my jacket. Unless something is throwing the color off...but I don't think so. I was also told that the color on the gussets IS supposed to be there, but again the studio guys wore it out and it's difficult to see. But even with this info, I'm going to have another made to my specs so its more to my liking, screen accurate or not.

Sounds good Knightsaber.
THEMAN, thanks for trying to get the email adress for me, I have the message I typed up saved so no rush. Is there is anything anyone wants me to bring up also?

I just got off the phone with vanson. Not too hopefull.

BOTTOM LINE: No one is getting dark brown, for the right movie leather has became too hard to find. Vanson is a dead-end. Let's bitch Wested to pick-up the ball correctly.

I feel the salesman was trying to trick me into believing I wanted something right out of the film. I was lectured on a lot of stuff I already knew. Long story short, I was told the same as told to KnightSaber. I kept repeating myself, "I don't want something that came off Hug Jackman's back. I wanted dark brown."

It does seem the salesman was oblivious of my order's request, for my order just felt on his lap after Amanda left. As far as he was concern, I wanted a Wolf jacket. He assumed I wanted Octagon, for octagon was the new standar color.

There is no way I can turn an octagon jacket dark. I don't know how to do it, nor I want to try and ruin the jacket. I only get a one shot at this.

I will spare you all from the phone devate that went on. He said he is sending me swatches to chose from the browns they DO have. Unless there is something DARK BROWNISH, I'm gonna cry REFUND. Yes, the jacket is going back. Yes, the return is on Vanson's.

Here's my next try for getting Wested to do an altered Wolverine jacket for me... hopefully the go for making the changes.

That would be sick man.
Should I still try to email P&D then?
[/b]
I would hold off for a little bit if you want something more accurate, at least until we see what Wested replies with... I just don't think PD will make enough changes to give you what you really want.
