Wolverine's Jackets

well

wested told me they will not be making any changes to the pattern of their X1 jacket, which means no wrap around waist stripes :cry

and im not real sure where they stand on using the horsehide (that i am still waiting on the sample to arrive)

so do with this information what you will.

i still think im going to find a local leather shop and price out a custom jacket for @#$%.sNgiggles

anyone know of a leather wholesale place? i've found a few but the leather seems kinda "less than fresh"

if you know what i mean......

where is everyone?
[/b]

Well, I'd say the we've pretty much exhausted the discussion in this thread for the time being. The last few pages were pretty much about the Vanson jacket and now it seems everyone knows what they need to know. So not much activity here lately. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but P&D updated their X3 jacket to be a bit more accurate.

Really the best X3 so far in my opinion. Of course wested will have one next year I think...now only if they could get the length right...

thats not bad, but why OH WHY must they have the back in so many pieces?
is there a reason for that? it looks kinda dumb, is it that hard to have it 1 piece?

and the arm zips dont go up to the elbow like they should

honestly why is it so hard for people to get these jackets right?

i have found some distressed leather, and am thinking about buying it and making my own wolvie jackets

the problem is i have no idea what is involed when sewing leather :lol

but i plan to find out

im going to make me an X1 (screen accurate) and then post it here, and see who wants to buy one.

(well ok this may or may not happen, but at the very least i am going to make myself one.)

anyone know the ins and outs of making leather garments? if not, i will go to a leather shop and ask them what they charge for labor, take them all of the materials and walk them through the pattern.

i still have not recieved the horsehide sample from wested, i may send them another request.

thats all i got

sorry, but i don't feel like going back and reading all of the posts so i'm just going to ask: I'm not wondering if the original x1 jacket was horsehide, I'm just wondering key differences from horsehide and cowhide? Is horsehide just heavier leather? I'm going to be getting a leather jacket soon, and I am looking at the vanson horsehide comet, I just want something real durable that I can trust if I happen to crash my bike. thanks for any help

not having ever touched horsehide, but from what i gather horsehide is pretty tough stuff, now im not saying that it is any better than cowhide, because i think you can find real thick tough cowhide as well.

but if you find pics from cole cash, his jacket was horsehide and it is really thick.

its not that horsehide is thicker, its stiffer its also more water and wind resistant. horsehide also can get marked and scratched easier than cowhide and because horses are not really used for their hides it is way more expensive than cowhide. just think about it 75% of the people that own horses own them as pet, and when a pet dies you don't ship it off to be slaughtered.....

I'm not a fan of the lambskin that they use for their jackets. I ordered their Cyclops jacket, and it tore in less than two weeks, and I only wore it twice (once each weekend). I ended up sending it back, got the run around from them for about two months, and finally after I threatened to complain, they sent a replacement. But I eventually sold that one on eBay, because I just wasn't happy with the whole dealing...

I am finally thru traveling until the middle of January. I have looked and listened to everyone. I am going with the Wested. I am going to use the leather that I purchased from The Man, thanks, for the stripes. There is something about the waist stripes that is throwing me off on the Vanson. No offense, I think they are a great jackets but I plan on wearing the jacket daily and I like the style of the Wested. I will keep everyone updated on the progress.

Wolf Style:
GA2
Same color gussets
Zipper on the left side
No snap back on collar
Gold Trim
Front pockets zip up to close
1-1/2 inches at the zipper and 5- at the back.

Is on this way it should arrive in 6 to 8 weeks from now :D When I spoke with Mike about the stripes he said when the jacket is finished the stripes will me exactly as I ordered them 1-1/2 inches at the zipper and 5- at the back. Mike is a great guy to work with, if you have any questions about the X1 jacket just tell him what your looking for with your order :thumbsup

Nice, they listened to a lot of the changes I brought up in that email from a while back. Big improvment over the original, in my opinion. They mentioned they were going to change the leather, I could be wrong but it looks like they did. Also, I'm jut gonna update the first post with some info on the vanson like the demensions aljf posted, that way if you need info it will be right there on the first page, let me know if there is anything else that needs to be added, or changed.

We are still here.... In fact, I have emailed you two times, and called Vanson once and got disconnectd after being put on hold about 4 times.....lol...

Perhaps you dont want to break in my credit card?? I wanted to know about the measuring device for the jacket, and get samples of GA2 and Walnut leather with the gold to make a color determination myself in person.

Yet another failed attempt to contact you today.... either they just give up after putting me on hold 3 times, or your phone system is a little sensitive....

So hows that wested jacket looking? :eek

Jan 11th will mark exactly 8 weeks from when I placed my order with Vanson. Hopefully, I will have my custom jacket in hand by then and I will be sure to take pix and post them up on the forums ASAP.
