It's amazing how many people here are fine with drug use and crime.
Haim commited felonies over and over, for 20 plus years and did no time for it... But our dear dear members that defend those actions cause the kid was in their favorite movie is just pathetic.
I'm not trying to throw gasoline on a fire by asking this but...
Am I supposed to be happy that he's dead?
Because this is the only point that I can see you and Darkside making. That I should be applauding his death as it means one less addict on the streets.
Let's get something straight as an arrow.
I hate recreational drugs. I hate drug addicts who completely tear apart not only their own lives, but more importantly the lives of everyone close to them. And drug dealers are among the lowest scum of the Earth.
I have deplored my stepson's actions since he became addicted in 2002. If it were not for the fact that he is my wife's son, I would not have any contact with him and would not allow him within 1000 yards of my home.
But this
does not mean that
do not want him to turn his life around. It does not mean that I would like to see him 6 feet under. I would not be doing a happy dance if we got the phonecall that he overdosed or was shot to death in a deal gone bad, or offed himself.
I am not so without compassion that regardless of what crimes my stepson has committed, or what he has put his family through, that I would be thinking "good riddance." I'll be much too busy taking care of my wife who will be in pieces.
Do I
really care that Corey Haim's drug abuse finally did him in? Not really. I'll probably forget he's gone within a month.
But the parallel between him and my stepson hits too close to home for me. And so I am able to understand what his friends and family went through while he was alive, and what they must be going through now.
It isn't so black and white for me. And while I despise what he put his family through, I will not say things like "one less drug addict." And I most certainly do not appreciate being told to STFU because I'm not so cold hearted as to laugh at and mock a man's death.
This is a tragedy. The worst part is all his friends and family thinking for the rest of their lives if they could have done something more to have saved him.
