WIP: Weyland-Yutani Corporate Pulse Rifle

This is going to be in our fan film, should we ever continue shooting.

The idea is, I wanted to make something more of a "presentation" pulse rifle that would be issued to guards in the Weyland-Yutani tower complex, but somehting that could be yanked out of the gun case and put into action.

What's it's ending up to be is something I want to display more than I want to let an actor drop on the ground. :)

I've been working on this thing little bits at a time for a long time now.

Progress pics.

This started life as a WILCO kit, that I started to modify right away.

I knew I wanted something of a "hero" grenade launcher that I could rack, so, I picked up a cheapo springer from ebay.

After mods.

And I modified the plastic spas cage with my own vents.

It was kind of a pain, and I'm not 100% happy with the end result, so I will probably try again.

In the mean time I've set my sights on some other modifications I was thinking on. To start with, I knew I wanted to do something different with the grips.

I knew I wanted to do something with the WY logo that I dig so much, so I did this.
WYPR%20grip%20RAW2.jpg

And I was also thinking of dropping in some sort of grip coin.
WYPR%20reciever%20RAW2.jpg

But ultimately decided on keeping it simple. Now intially I was going to paint the WY logo in white and yellow on a black grip. Then I thought "what if I do something more subtle? I could "engrave" the logo then use a nice deep black and hit it with acrylic clearcoat.

So I fired up the dremel.

And I was very happy with the end result.

So, the next step was to start putting it together and painting it. I knew I wanted a flat black/glossy black color scheme with accents of silver. The shotgun chamber, and some other odds and ends on the Pulse Rifle would be silver.

Now, for the grenade launcher I didn't have the benefit of using a real shotgun, and the airsofts don't really work the same, so I needed a crossbar type arm to charge the GL. I ended up using something I found at home depot, and it worked perfectly.

So, here is where the Pulse Rifle stands today:

I still have an aweful lot of work to do on this, and I've pretty much decided I have too many hours into it, and it's too fragile to have on set. :)

So, it's just going to live in a nice display case.

Thanks for looking. :D

That's going to look fantastic. Nice work. I'm envious of your artisanal skills...I still haven't been able to successfully assemble the pulse rifle conversion kit for the Tokyo Marui Thompson. Sigh...

must be a nice talent to have[/b]

Thank you, but I still have a whole lot to learn. I'm good with modding out kits, still not so great with the scratch building skills, but I'm working on them :)

I love what you have done to those grips, they look really sharp. [/b]

Thanks, I'm pretty proud of them. :D

Post some pics of what you're having troubles with, I know several of the members here have built them, maybe they can give you some advice. Advice any of us who plan to build one in the future could use I'm sure..

:love

Looks good so far.

What cheapo springer shotgun did you get? I was hoping to put something of the like in my wilco kit as well.

As well, the pics of the Thompson looks very realistic - what paints are you using? an have they be clearcoated in anyway?

I have no idea what the brand is, it's the cheapest of the cheap springers. :D The clip doesn't even come out, I had to chop it off. But if you type "870 airsoft" in the ebay search, you'll hit this shotgun many times, and it's very inexpensive. Just look for the white copy on the side, it's called the CA "super shotgun" CQB. It comes with a flashlight and a laser sight and stuff.

The paint I'm using is Krylon Ultra Flat black for the thompson parts. I absolutely love the Ultra Flat series of paints. I used Krylon BBQ on the spas cage, and the grips. But on the grips I then used a Krylon low odor, high gloss clear coat acrylic spray paint I got at Michaels. It sprays on sort of milky white, but as it cures it gives the BBq a very deep black color and it actually shrinks a bit I think, and gives the piece a nice coating.

Beware the the Ultra Flat paint has a serious chemical vapor, and the clear coat takes about 24 hours to fully cure before you can mess with it. I try to give anything I use it on 2 days before I handle it too much, and I cure it with a small fan usually too.

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking into that Airsoft.

Now what did you do mean by "so I needed a crossbar type arm to charge the GL"? - and how did you manage it?

I'm also interested in the nity-grity details of the airsoft into GL. I have both a built-up and a kit Wilco PR. I plan on adding a springter to the GL and doing what upgrades I can.. Static LED for example, and a functional sliding stock..

Your build-up looks to be coming along quite well. What you did with the handgrips is really sweet (BOTH the engraved WY and the paint/coat.)

Thanks guys, here are a few images of how I did this.

I had the benefit that the spring shotgun acuated by a centered aluminum bar, like this:

crossbar2.jpg

So all I had to do was drill a hole to match the pump handle, which came off the spring spas, and already had a hole in the center.

Gl%20undone.jpg

GL%20undone2.jpg

Luckily, the hole in the pump grip lined up with the springers metal pump arm perfectly, I just needed to drill a second hole, like this:

crossbar.jpg

Then make sure the hole was big enough for the Hillman threaded post thingy (what I called the crossbar):

crossbar1.jpg

I then glued a couple of washers on the pump grip so the resin wasn't taking the bulk of the stress when I pumped the GL:

And I also thought that decoratively they worked with the piece, since the accent is silver.

This is what they look like otherwise, just a simple device, not sure what real world application they have :)

I've used those things for holding my Matsu shroud together :)

Ikea give them away for nothing - They're for holding two adjacent bookshelves together.

Thanks for the extra info Noeland

And yeah Gorm. post some pics of that 870. I didn't realize Walmart sold airsofts in the US. I'm in Canada and can't even bid on them on ebay, but I'm heading south this weekend (yeah, I know - I picked the worst weekend) and would be thrilled to get one when I'm there.

Ya, it's the clear one and no I didn't buy it. ( I have to many kids to buy for this cristmas. LOL)

It's probably this one:

And If memory serves these are too wide to have in a spas cage. :confused

I think . . .
