WIP: Total Recall Uzi

I never understood why nobody ever attempted to build it as i always thought it was a beautiful gun, so i decided to try and build it myself. I am building it up on a $50 airsoft micro uzi as i find spending $100-200 on an airsoft to build up a prop a bit too much :)

Drew the patterns for the back parts, the front parts and did 3D models for the ribbed rod and the barrel-thingie.

I had the layers for the back parts lasercut from acrylic sheet and finally finished putting them together and shaping them (believe it or not, a good 40 hours in total). Phase 2 will be to have the acrylic sheet for the front parts cut and assemble them, then i will have the 2 last remaining pieces machined.

Am fairly happy with how they turned out, although it still pains me i am not a human CNC mill like my scratchbuild idol Shawn (morganthirteen) :D

And before yall go PM-ing me if i will offer kits when i am done, ofcoarse i will, don't worry :)

I'll keep you posted :)

Cool, I've always loved the film and that gun for some reason.

Nice work :)

As uncomfortable as I always am to receive such praise, thank you, Marc.

That looks excellent, and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.

Beautiful.

hahahaha. I feel exactly the same way.. Every time I get a dremel in my hand, or an exacto knife, I think "OK, Shawn would be able to make this effin' perfect. Be like Shawn."

Which never works of coarse. :D

Marc, this is a dream project of mine, but I have not had the means to make it real for some time now, so hopefully when you're ready to sell, I'll be ready to buy.. :lol

I hope. :confused

The project looks great so far, it's one of my favorite prop guns. :thumbsup

Can't wait to see more progress.

Thank you for sharing the pics.

Looking great so far.
Can you please explain exactly what you did to create the parts/ patterns?

Markus

Thanks guys :)

I used lasercut acrylic pieces, carbodyfiller and a lot of patience and coffee :)

Basicly what i did whas draw the patterns in coreldraw, figured out the several different needed layers and had them cut. I glued them together and did some final smoothing and filling with autobody filler. Then filed and sanded the rounded bevels and painted it

Also i burnt candles and offered resin and primer in my 'scratchbuildgod' shrine where a golden bust of Shawn (holding a dremel and an exacto knife) resides :lol

both the pieces are build up off around 10 layers, so a good 20 in total, to cut them by hand and have them look sharp is a pain and nearly impossible and takes a lot of time (i still wake up sweating and screaming sometimes in the middle of the night after having nightmares about my working styrene Ricogun from Dredd, which was entirely cut by hand).

Lasercutting is a relatively cheap and fast way to have flat shapes cut, there are several people on this board who can do it. These pieces were cut by firefoxm31.

If I am not mistaken you used this method to great effect in building your orbo gun, right?

It's a very interesting technique, seems time consuming but very effective.

Don't forget talent, skill, and one hell of an eye for detail and symmetry..

:thumbsup

That's right, same technique as the orbogun. It does take a considerable amount of time to build stuff that way, but doing it all by hand takes way more time. That's why i have decided i will get a CNC mill next year, to make my life a little easier.

and thanks for the kind words :)

ok, small update. Thanks to Juno and Darcjedi for helping me with the construction of the more difficult parts :) Thanks guys, it means a lot to me.

i have sent the patterns off to the laser cutter, and the following pieces were finished by the above mentioned 2 people:

please ignore the domeshaped piece with the engraved 'T' that part is for a set of 'Thompson Eyephones' from Johnny Mnemonic :D

Excellent. I *still* can't wait.

And interestingly enough, those two talented individuals you mentioned have also recently assisted on a project of mine as well.

Please tell me more about the lasercut pieces...

What would I need to have such things created?
Where did you have them cut?
Price?

Thanks, Markus
