My wife has decided that she'd like to go as Shaak Ti to this years' San Diego Comic Con so I'm starting to put together a plan of how I'm going to make the headpiece with the top horns. This is the first project of this scale I've ever done so I could use a little bit of advice from the experts.
Here's what I'm aiming to replicate:
I'm thinking of doing the main headpiece as one and then sculpting the three lekku (the tails at the back and front) separately and attaching the final pieces prior to painting.
For the original model, I'm planning on using wire armature built over a polystyrene head, built up with WED clay.
Then for the mold, I'm thinking a two part mold using Rebound 25 over the whole thing and then plaster or hydrocal over the top for the mother-mold.
For the casting, I'm thinking about using Smooth On's FlexFoam-IT III as it needs to be flexible, and most importantly LIGHT WEIGHT! We did an cloth stuffed with batting Twi'lek headpiece a while back for a halloween party but her neck was killing her by midway through the evening.
So what do you guys think? Does it sound like I'm on the right tracks?
