WIP- NBC Hannibal Wendigo for D*con SUPER SPEEDY BUILD!

Hi guys! Lots and lots of work to do in a crazy short amount of time, figured posting a progress thread might help keep me on-task and motivated...

The moment i saw this terrifying dude creep onscreen i knew i'd have to make him- which does not at all explain why i've waited until less than a week before Dragoncon to build him... (along with several other costumes, NO SLEEP 'TIL ATLANTA!)

I’m making it a bit more monstrous than it is in the actual episode- we only get a few almost subliminal glimpses of him, so despite having still shots and whatnot i feel okay about taking a little artistic liberty with him. I’m building the emaciated suit over my own body, to give it larger-than-life, inhuman proportion. I am 6’ barefoot, with shoes 6’8”, and with horns i top out just under 9’ tall, so it’s already pretty intimidating… (Also i am 100% keeping the black-on-black-on-charcoal colour scheme, no worries there.)

I've rounded up all of my materials, and am locking myself in the garage until i'm done (or die of heat exhaustion,) but i'd really appreciate any input or feedback on a few design points as i get rolling:

1. Instead of humanoid, i’m making the face a bit more like a rotting, animalistic skull. still enough skin/muscle for a snarly expression, but empty pits for eyes and nose, all suspended a couple inches in front of my actual blacked-out face to give the impression of emtiness. cool idea, or terrible-just-give-him-a-dudeface?

2. LED light points in the hollowed-out eye sockets: y/n?

3. Feathers? Like, not a sweet-transvestite, fabulous sort of feathers, but scattered in especially around terminal points-n-joints? I’ve seen a couple fanarts that work them in to really effective and creepy advantage

4. Ears: human ears, pointy humanoid ears, or animal ears? I’m leaning toward elk ears in shape, but set against the head like human ears

Honestly i’m gonna try a couple things and stick with whatever looks best to me, but any and all input would be much appreciated and taken into account. Point out something i haven’t thought of yet and i will love you so hard, seriously.

Also i have really weird build methods, so i'll try to update my progress with good pictures. If anyone has any questions or input, hit me!

Man, i am realizing more and more how obnoxiously limited my range of motion is going to be in this thing. It's a good thing i'll have friends with me in 'normal' clothes, because i can't actually reach the floor once i'm strapped in...

I carved the main ribcage and the hipbones out of EVA foam with a combination of mat knife, junked out soldering iron, and dremel. Since it's all getting covered in fabric i wasn't too finnicky about getting it smooth/even/perfect. Besides, i want a sort of monstrous organic form, so a little imperfection is good. (Seriously i would happily spend a week just making this absolutely symmetric and perfectly sanded, but this time i am NOT ALLOWED.) The lighter grey foam tubing and cotton balls were hot-glued to add some extra dimension. The humerus, femur, and spine are waiting on refinement...

Like this! Quick and dirty carve with an old kitchen knife. Great Stuff really is great stuff. Again, it's gonna be covered in fabric, so the detail just isn't that important.

Super sweet stripper boots (the gap between the front platform and the heel is filled in so that it's a solid line instead of really obviously stripper heels.) It's not quite the shape i wanted, which will eventually require digitigrade stilts, but it'll do for this con. Also hacked a skateboarding helmet in half to mount the antlers via screw-on pvc fittings. The pvc structure is, unsurprisingly, too heavy, so i'll be carving new bases from blue foam board.

Since i apparently wanted this thing to be as tortuous as possible, i decided on a sort of posture collar to cover the gap between the ribcage and the helmet. It's latex layered over pantyhose onto a positive of my collar area (that i made with craft foam and masking tape, and covered with aluminum foil,), then layered a couple more times with black plasti-dip. For an experiment it turned out pretty good, i might wanna give it another go when i have the time to be more careful. Black leather corset finally finished, whoo hoo, and it takes about 4'' off of my waist, which definitely helps with the skeletal look.
