Re: WIP Krull Kings Medallion Pic Intensive

No problem.

Here's some more pics for chain size reference (that and we get to see the other side of the medallion)...

Wow, really cool. I didn't realize there was anything on the other side. Thanks for those pics.

Re: WIP Krull Kings Medallion Pic Intensive

The necklace looks two-toned to me, weather that's two chains coiled around each other or one chain weathered in different spots I don't know.

Ok.....still waiting on the chain from China, takes forever. I went over the castings and i realized the original master had a few flaws. The top right portion was very thin and during clean up of the casting, it would get even thinner. I did a ton of bondo work to smooth things poor and even up the thickness of the circle area. Here are done completed castings one is gloss one is flat. Not sure which is correct. I also made the jump rings from galvanized wire then soldered the ends together to make a solid ring
Flat:

WOW, I just found this post right now, it's a very good job, I love your work.

I bought a similar medaillon on the last month here but I don't received yet.

Anyway, I would like to buy one of your replica to put in my private collection.

Thanks guys, I'm trying to complete ten of them before i post in the jy. So how do you think the black portion should be? Flat or glossy? I'm also working out the magnet to hold the key in place rather than glue it in. Would this be a better option?

I know I posted earlier that I thought flat would be best but now that I look at it ... well... Don't hate me but what about some kind of semi gloss?

Id say whatever finish is more screen accurate. I like the Gloss but it looks like the Matte might be the way to go.
As for the Key, adding magnets would be a cool bit of added magic to an already mystical Medallion.

Or you could leave it flat and let the buyer decide once he gets it. Only take a minute, some gloss, and a paintbrush. ;)

I don't know which is more accurate but I think glossy looks nicer. I finally worked out the magnets for the key. I'm using 1mm x 2mm magnets. two holes drilled into the front of the medallion and two holes drilled into the back of the key. magnets glued in place and painted over. it hold the key really well but tried swinging the medallion with a little force and the key fell off. for wearing our display it hold fine though. if it needs to hold tight I could always add more magnets. a stronger hold you risk prying the key out and risk scratching the surface though. here are some pics:

thanks guys, you barely even see the magnets after they are painted, and you don't see then at all when the key is in place

Wow....lol. been working on these forever. I made 9 of them. I originally used two magnets but it looks like I need the to hold it really well. After a cost a black enamel, I stayed it with automotive clear coat. Produced an amazing finish. I have three chains. I weathered them with black enamel and thinner, with a clear coat.
