WIP Destiny Warlock Helmet - Tengu Operant 3

Hello all, i'm lewis, a 3D graphic designer from the UK.

this is my build thread for the warlock helmet. it's my first pep helmet and I'm a complete beginner to this world of prop making. its going pretty well so far. I imagine the pep part is the easy part of the build judging by the amount of tutorials, comments and threads i've seen. i've got a strong list of materials and equipment based on research. The only material we struggle to get here in the UK is Bondo. i don't really know what the equivalent is here but I'm a couple of weeks away from that yet.

The pep model came from a guy called Jico from the 405th and his mate grey bear did the physical build. they put together a really professional PDO. Being a 3D modeller i was going to make my own but Lightwave (3D software i use) doesn't play nice when exporting to OBJ + i wouldn't know where to start with unfolding the mesh.

For the Pep part i used 230gsm card / hobby knife / loctite superglue (strongly recommend) / blue tac for temporary sections and a standard A3 cutting mat.

in the 3rd picture you might be able to see an issue i had with a rear panel thats decided to flex inwards. anybody know a fix for this in the pep stage or shall i just smooth it out in the bondo stage?

i still have the attachments to build that really make this helmet stand out. I'm hoping to go for a Chatterwhite shader paint job from the game which is mostly white, black sections and gold detailing. Weathering I'm going to consider further down the project line.

if theres any questions / tips / tricks don't hesitate to offer or ask :]

Looks awesome so far, for the back panel that flexed inwards, try holding in place from the inside and leaving it for a while and see if it sorts itself out.

Good looking helm, I will follow your progress with interest.

As for UK supplies (Bondo), look for a product called Isopon P38.

I usually order mine online, but i understand that Halfords stock it.

I would stick some bracing struts inside the helm to force it into the position you want before applying the resin. You can always cut them out after the Resin stage.
