WIP ANH Han Solo Costume

I hadn't heard anything like that about Dawn Anderson. I just bout the pattern from her as well ad had no problems.

Looks like Dawn is pulling this BS again. I just heard from another member here... identical situation to what I experienced. Buyer beware when buying directly from Dawn Anderson Designs.

Hi again, aimeekitty!
Thanks for the nice respose (and THANKS as well for the link to your Blog - looks like you've got a lot of great info, VERY kind of you to share!)

The finished VEST looks incredible (wow, a credit card pocket, too? Nice detail!)
:)

Just to reiterate what I said in the Bespin jacket thread - I did have issues with Dawn Anderson as a seller. Emails were ignored for a couple of weeks until a paypal claim was filed, then boom, shipped notice the next day. Pattern looks good and well packaged but I hate these vendors that pretend not to get your correspondence until you are forced to lean on them (see also Kerezman).
It's so disrespectful to force a buyer to do all that legwork when you're apparently too good to ship the items you are happy to take payment for.

Anyway, back on topic! :)

Aimee, that blaster... Wow!

Forgive the (novice) question, but I have to ask:
At the start of this Thread you mentioned some of the pieces you were working towards getting and one of them was (I thought, anyway - again: novice) a Doopydoos DL-44 Blaster Resin put-it-together-and-paint-it-yourself kit...
So, is THAT the holy-freakin'-WHOA finished product in the picture above with the droid-caller? Or did you purchase a finished piece from some vendor?
Any details you can share?
As you know, I'm on the lookout for an ESB Blaster myself (a finished one that would look similar in finish to your ANH version above, ideally) so I'm wondering if you've got any info on a positive experience with a Vendor you can pass along.

Cheers!

It does look like it to me, and the paint job is fantastic. I'm not so skilled with paint, used to have a blast-tech kit myself and would recommend it highly if you've got the scratch. The weight of metal is nice, but it also weighs heavily on the holster if you plan to wear it. The Solo holster is kind of awful, least comfortable rig I've ever worn, almost impossible to sit down in it.

Mitch, yup that's the Doopydoo's resin kit I bought! I epoxy'd it together and painted it up. It wasn't too bad! I'm not an expert gun painter and I wasn't entirely sure about perfect accuracy, but I did try...! and I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
Basically I did a black primer coat, used a gloss black over that... then used brass rub n buff paint for parts of the scope and then silver leaf paint (or you could also use silver rub n buff paint) for the main part of the gun. I used about 5 colors of brown acrylic paint I had sitting around to do a bit of a faux wood finish on the handle, and then I spray sealed the whole thing with a clear gloss. I think that's what I did. :)

Thanks so so much you guys! <3

Okay, then... I just wanted to be sure.

Don't get creeped out or anything... but I am officially in awe of you.
I'll try not to do that uncomfortable celebrity/fan thing, though. :)

REALLY impressed, Aimee! And having a blast learning about this stuff AND watching the leaps & bounds of the progress you're making.

:) :thumbsup

haha, it's fine! I'm glad you guys think it's turning out well! I suppose I could get paid to paint guns for people, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it to folks.

Goodluck! :)

Thanks! I'm kinda at a standstill due to being swamped with summer stuff, but I hope to finish up the rest soon!
