Wild Wild West Movie prop research question

Hello,

I usually lurk as most of my projects are not real movie props, but as I'm getting closer to starting on a project I've wanted to do I've come here for help from this excellent community.

I have a friend who is missing his legs, he saw my other wheelchair mod I did and we collaborated and brainstormed the idea of making him the Dr. Loveless wheelchair.

Now the reason I'm posting. I need help finding decent photos of the original prop or information on who might own the original and be willing to take some pics.

there are really only two decent photos of the prop when it toured shortly after the movie came out. But these are low res. I need more detail to do this accurately.

The original had a bracket/basket for the real actor's legs. This part was removed post processing. My project wont need that part so I'm not interested in it.

There was an issue of Cinefex 79 that had Wild Wild West info in it, does anyone have this issue and willing to look in it to see if there are any decent photos?

I've contacted the on-set promotional photographer and asked if he had any photos of the chair but he has not replied. At this point I'll take anything anyone has, including definite information on when the bluray is coming out (rumor mid may 2011)

Thanks everyone who reads this, I know a lot of people considered it a lame movie but I enjoyed it and there are few costumes out there for some one without legs so this was easily a first choice for my friend.

May want to contact Rickprops here on the RPF. Don't think he made that one, but he did some work for the film.

Yep thank you for the pictures but alas those are the only ones I'm finding as well. Still looking for any old promo pictures or that one Cinefex issue.

I luckily have a machine shop and professional machinist on hand to do all the metal frame work, Once I have blueprints of the frame shape i'll post them on here and start a progress thread.

for now I'm still hungry for pictures!

Thank you PHArchivist, I'll contact him and ask around!

You buy that issue of Cinefex shipped for $7.77.

I don't think I can post the link due to board rules, but if you search "Cinefex 79" on eBay you'll see a couple that are pretty inexpensive.

will do, once Received I'll Scan in relevant shots and share here.

i am interested in this also. the dvd did have some good shots of the hald built chair and some concept images if that helps.

Ah, Okay thanks for the correction. We just got a kiln and will be smelting our own bronze soon. This will be an exciting project.

Still interested for sure! I never got a chance to buy a copy since we had the tornados here in the south east. We're ok but it affected the whole city. Thanks for the effort!

Fantastic!! I'm so glad to see the original in the possession of some one not afraid to take it out and be seen!

I have lots of questions, some just for my own curiosity. Where did you acquire it and from who? Is it motorized or is it manual control? It looks motorized I just want confirmation. Do you know who originally made it? What prop studio etc.

If you previously read this thread then you know I'm making a reproduction specifically for my friend who has no legs so it wont be a completely accurate to size since his body proportions are larger in the shoulders than you or the original actor. That being said I still need good and thorough measurements so I can scale it up to his body.

Also pictures are very important. Particulary front, side, back, top down, and close ups of the details. oh and any internal electronics.

Lastly what materials are used in the construction? Not important just curiosity again.

Okay that's probably enough for right now. I just can't tell you how excited I was to see your reply! Fantastic! I'm also up for talking on the phone about it.

I am currently on the road, But here are some details off the top of my head.

Chair was purchased from the VoloCar museum in Volo, Illinois, about 4 months ago. Chair is motorized and runs on a Invacare MkIV Rii controller (heavy duty). The chair had 85K invested by WB for the design and manufacture. Not sure about the Actual prop studio that did the work... but I think it is mentioned on the extras DVD/BLUray disk.

Power is 24V (Four 12Vbatteries wired in series and parallel) for the Motors and 12V for the Governors (spinners) and Fog machine timer. The fog machines main power comes from the 24V batteries that go to a 24V to 110V AC Inverter.

Construction of the frame is aluminum plate.

Wheels are the strange part about the chair. The Original rubber had had it. Replaced the RED Cord tires with Gold cord. This is really weird. red cord tires are meant for 24" rims, Gold for 26"... I have no idea how they got a Red cord tire on that rim. The 26" was a really pain to get on. Rims look to be steel and the spokes look to be coated with some sort of filler. So I can't really tell what they did to actually reinforce the wheel.

For size. Kenneth Branagh is about 5ft 10" 154lb, I am 6ft 220lb.

I'll get you some photos and measurements to get you started, once I am around the chair.
