Why does Sean Bean die so much?

Honestly it's almost like the producers of movies say something like:

"Hey we got this script here and this one guy dies who should play him"
"Oh Sean Bean, he's a pro at that!"

    It's hilarious.

Honestly though his live to death ration is something close to 2:1. Of all the films, games and plays he's died about 22 times while living through about 47. He may be the biggest actor who often ends up dead.

Any theories on this? Is it that he just has a face you see and be like "yup he's a goner".

Is there someone who's died more than him.

I just thought it was a funny discussion starter.

I tell you one thing. When I first saw GoldenEye I knew he wasn't dead at the beginning because he was Number 3 in the credits. The Number 3 guy in the credits never dies in the first ten minutes. How dumb do they think we are?

He survived in Silent Hill but the rest of the movie died painfully.

I'm not entirely sure about "more" times, but Michael Ironside comes to mind when I think "dead man" (or at least losing a lot of body parts in the process :lol).

"The man is a walking spoiler" to quote one of the Hitler parody videos.
There was a time when Bill Paxton had a hard time making it to the closing credits, but he seems to have gotten past that for the most part.

Brion James (Leon in Blade Runner) seems to bite it quite often. In Enemy Mine I think he gets dropped into a ore processor.

Even as a child, Sean has had one life goal, to prove the stereotype of the black guy always dying in the movie wrong by becoming the greatest death actor ever! As you can see, he never proved anything but till this day continues to chase after his dreams. Way to go Sean! No THAT'S a go getter!

Why'd he die so much? Karmic balance for the Sharpe series. There were, like, 14 100-min episodes where he somehow managed to survive through the Napoleonic wars. You make it through all of that, you better bet the universe is gonna balance it out for ya. ;)

Also, perhaps because Liam Neeson was unavailable now that he's busy chasing after guys who stole his daughter/identity/wife/etc.

I see that Bean is playing the king in "Mirror, Mirror" the Snow White movie with Julia Roberts, opening this weekend.

I don't feel good about his chances.

It's too bad. I met Sean Bean on Don't Say a Word when it was filmed up here. I was a on-set set dresser and he was a super nice guy. I hope one day he lives through a movie lol.

you guys have Michael Biehn, we have Sean Bean :D

tbh, I really like Sean Bean, and if you add up all his credits, yes, he may die alot, but he has been in a LOT of high profiles. Albeit, not always for very long.

Very under-rated actor (eg he would have made such a better Aragon than Vigo) who gets very regular work.

A friend and I were in a theater recently when they were previewing that new Ashley Judd series. They showed Sean Bean as the father. Well I looked at my firend and said "I bet he dies quick" Next, I mean NEXT Scene not 5 seconds later, BOOM his car explodes. We were rolling on the floor laughing our * off.

Sean Bean should have been John Constantine then he could have at least double crossed his way out of a death.

I don't know if he's died more times, but Lance Henriksen certainly dies in a great deal of his movies... in fact, I have a hard time recalling one that he survives! He dies in Aliens, Pumpkinhead, The Quick and the Dead, Hard Target, Alien vs Predator, Helraiser: Hellworld, Scream 3, Near Dark, No Escape, Jennifer Eight, Stone Cold, The Pit and the Pendulum, Terminator (presumably), and those are just the ones I can think of off hand. :lol

Technically Lance survived Aliens (but was half the man he used to be ;) ) and as far as The Terminator goes, he took about 10 rounds from an AR-18 and a shotgun blast so it's a safe bet he died in that one. :)

He did have his "plug pulled" in Alien3, but managed to not get killed in The Right Stuff. :)

Lance certainly does die a lot too.

//Contains a minor minor spoiler for a Sean Bean film.//
I just saw a Sean Bean movie, The Lost Future, that surprised me. First of all it was on Syfy channel and it was filmed by Syfy. It surprised me because it was actually half decent. And secondly he actually didn't die! There was a scene towards the end where I thought "oh he made it so far" but then he pulled through!

I think Sean Bean was always meant to play a bad guy so with that he just must always die.

Goldeneye is the perfect Sean Bean Movie. He dies twice in it.

In his day, Yul Brynner died a lot in movies too. He didn't die in The 10 Commandments, but frankly that would have been a blessing. You gotta admit, Sean was the perfect choice to play Ned Stark. Actually think about it, being a guy who perpetually gets killed, what a great thing for your career. You get lot's of work, if the director or co-stars are pains, well you only have to deal with them for part of the filming.

Yeah, but that was the only film where he got to die twice.

He survived "Slammin Salmon", but he had a small part. And I assume he will survive "Bring Me The Head of Lance Henriksen" if it ever gets finished.

In "CA$H" (on Netflix), Sean is both dead, and alive at the end of the movie.
