Who's an expert on Indiana Jones Jackets?

What is the most accurate IJ Raiders jacket? Wested? Are there any details of the ones they make for the public that are not screen accurate?

What type of leather was used for Raiders? Lamb? Goat? D-rings or square rings for the side pulls? Nickle or brass zipper? Where are the snaps on a Raiders jacket?

Thanks,

Chris

There are a few forums that are exclusive to Indiana Jones.

I'm sure someone will post the best ones!

Just go with a Wested. They are the company who made them for the films. Visit http://www.wested.com/. They are based out of london. The jackets are in the $300 - $400 range. Also check out indygear.com then the jacket section of the forum for plenty of additional info.

Wested definitely. As to precisely what you'll want to order from them, as I think you were interested in specifics, see the archived thread I posted above. It's practically exhaustive on the subject of a screen accurate Raiders order from Wested by two of the foremost experts from Indygear.

There's also the jackets from Todd's Costumes. His standard ones are nice and cheap and look fantastic. Pretty darned accurate too as far as I know.

The folks at Wested are pretty receptive to the fans. Give 'em a call and let them know what you're looking for. They CAN do a screen accurate version. I prefer the subtle things they did like double stitching and other things to make it a much more durable jacket. I wear mine everyday almost and it's comfy as heck. Mine is an off the rack version but you can get a custom fit and they will do it up for you in any way you'd like. ;)

Wested made the original. Correct, the ones they make for the public are not screen accurate, but they did this moreso out of failing memory than on purpose. They do listen to what your custom corrections are.

The type of leather used on Raiders was lambskin BUT the type of tanned lamb is very different today that it was then. Peter used to get his lamb used for the original Raiders from a mill that is no longer open. It is reported that it used to literally stand by itself in a corner it was so stiff. Now a days, the lamb, while accurate in color is too soft compared to the original. To remedy this body issue, Peter does stain Goat close to the original color of Raiders. This is a much stiffer leather and makes up a bit closer to body of the original. Look closely though, the grain is a just a hair different.

Double D Rings on the side, both dark oxide. The zipper is brass.

If you want the full list, Agent 5 and I put together an exhaustive list of corrections we had made to our jackets which I believe (to date) are the most accurate Wested Pair of jackets out there.

The list is in the RPF Archive.
