Who makes the best Spider-Man COMIC style suit?

Gone but not forgotten.
Got a buddy who is looking to get a COMIC BOOK style Spiderman costume - he wants this thing to look as darn close as you can get. I know there have been some great ones here, but this cannot look like the movie suit at all. He's hoping to get traditional John Buscema eyes as well. I know there was a guy in paris or something that people used to talk about here as making the best looking suits but I know some of you know exactly where to go. Also - do people usually offer socks or slippers as boots? tanks

I own a comic suit by Brad from Spidey4Fun. The eyes I did myself becuase at the time he did not offer comic style eyes. I know by now he at least does Macfarlane's large eyes, and he might be doing Romita eyes now as well?

Yep.
Spidey4Fun has been one of the best "go to" guys for printed suits.
He can whip up pretty much anything.
I have one of his comic style Batman suits and I love it.

Also you could check The Heroes Locker
It's a site run by a costumer that goes by the name of Harmonic Distortion here.

Usually, the suits are one piece, but there are some variations available from each supplier. They geneerally use "aqua socks" as the base shoe under the spandex of the costume boot (with the sole on the outside).

I'll admit that's a great looking suit..... but it doesn't look like the comic book suit to me.

Yes, it's the correct cut and webbing pattern, but all the dark shadows and muscle lines applied make it way to dark.

The comic book suit should be very bright- primary color red and primary color blue- with black webbing printed on and nothing else. It also needs the webbing in the armpit area, and the mechanical web shooters.

The shadows come from real light and the muscle lines from real muscles, not from being printed on.

It is a really nice suit overall though.

That does look cool. But I agree with JK 1138 that it doesn't look like the comic suit. It is too dark. I was never a fan of the thick black edged eyes. I also didn't like the webbing under the arms.

The problem with not having the shadow lines is that unless you are bodybuilder, you won't see the muscles through the suit. Maybe a little less lines or lighter ones would help.

The other problem is with the web shooters. In the books you can't tell that he has them on. There's no way to have them on under the suit and make it look like the comic.

I looked over Brad's site and I gotta say, you're really talented man. Great work.

Humbly, I've always been of the opinion that the best Spidey costume design was that used in the MTV Spider-Man CGI cartoon.

It had excellent use of the color sections, in which it used the border of the blue and red to exaggerate Spidey's proportions. Specifically, the red sections on the shoulders and arms were thinner, and cut in a way that made the shoulders and biceps seem larger. Also, the red on the chest curved slightly in at the pecs, making his chest seem bulgier, and the red was also thinner, making his torso seem even thinner. Along with this, it used fewer, wider spaced web lines on the suit (especially the mask), and just seemed to come out looking a lot cleaner.

I dunno. I always really appreciated the level of polishing in that design.

Depending on the design, the web shooters weren't always visible.

And as to the muscle shading, you have to remember that the way a normal (or even very muscular person) looks in a lycra suit is not at all how the comics make them appear to be. So if you want to make yourself look like Spidey from the comics, often you'll have to integrate muscle shading...otherwise, you'll probably just look like a guy in pajamas.

But to each their own.

this is my suit file that i ordered off of ebay... its very bright but also has a very defined muscle pattern on it to give it a comic book appearance without being really dark like the movie suits.
no clue when im going to print it... i need to get a sewing machine to so i need to sell a good bit more of my stuff first, then i should be able to order everything to make the suit.

I really like it and hope i can get it printed at least before the end of next year.

I agree, Orhadar' s print is outstanding, but have additional texturing and shading, so your friend might not like it. In my opinion there is absolutely no better comic style print out there, even if it has a bit more realism to its look.

Ask Ohadar if he can brighten the colours on his print maybe? Lunaman's Ultimate Spidey http://www.therpf.com/f24/lunas-ultimate-spider-man-build-orhadar-print-pic-heavy-185367/ is so awesome I cant decide wether to do an Ultimate or The Amazing Spidey from the new movies!

Highlighting the web lines as Luna did seems to help in giving the 'comic' feel.

Thanks Mod, but as Egon Spengler said, Orhadar's print has really extreme muscle shading and an elaborate hexagon pattern over the entire suit, which might not make it suitable for the needs of the original poster. Given how the thread is 3 years old, though, I doubt it's still relevant at this point. :lol For those that don't want to click through the link above, here's a picture of me in my suit. I think it looks very 'comic style,' but perhaps not the comics that Jet Beetle's friend was looking to emulate. Cheers.
