who is batmans most physically imposing villian

so i recently re-watched batman 89, returns, forever, B&R :cry, begins, knight and rises. and batman only really fights Bane (rises) and catwomen (returns) all the other fights are really just thugs and i think back on superman (im not a superman fan) and he has full on fights with most of his villains.
now in the DCAU films batman fights the villains Red hood and superman stick out.

So not knowing much about batman in the comics who is his most imposing villain?
and why do the films never show him getting battered and beaten but fighting back like the animated films? still think the Arkham Games, Under The Red Hood and Dark Knight Returns are the best representations of the BAT

On a side note

I'm a big batman fan but realized i never really read the comics its just the films and tv shows so i'd like to know more any comic recommendations have read knightfall and killing joke and thinking of reading HUSH next

All of those except for Ras Al Ghul. Ras may have been Bats most challenging villain but he's not physically imposing.

Edit: oh and the reason you don't see Batman getting in a lot of fights is because Batman stories tend to be more intellectual. Besides being physically imposing, he is super smart and his villains tend to be more of the brainy type. That's why he's the World's Greatest Detective.

Have not seen the animated films, but I would say read the comics, even if you have seen the films. They are great and are the foundation for alot of what the modern day Batman is. Especially the Nolan films.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the Long Halloween. It's sequel, Dark Victory is pretty good too. If you like the Joker, I would give Brian Azarello's The Joker a read too.
