Who builds sabers anymore?

All right, the Killer Penny saber hits this board, too! :cool :thumbsup

....now that is awesome. Much better than I expected. I remember when he first posted that design way back when on ASAP, and then some fella scorched a hole through the grip. Great job, your attention to detail is amazing! Thanks for posting the link too!

This saber is actually a second saber to compliment the one with the scorched hole. It uses the same base grip but from there the differences are what set it apart.

A couple of you asked about me (Sporak and Imperious come to mind, sorry if I miss ya, it's a long thread!). I'm doing ok. Thanks. :)

These are some AMAZING props. I am going to make a motion for the Admins to archive this thread in a few days, IF you guys can keep the pics up. Otherwise, there's no point.

Thank you for the participation! Maybe more will chime in... ;)

Nothing fancy. Plenty bright though... and shiny!

Green K2 Luxeon resistor driven on 4AAA, vibrating motor and power level indicator on the box. Pommel switch (not seen in that pic) is the Lux and the box switch controls motor and PLI.

May end up in the junkyard if it doesn't sell elsewhere.

Here's the first Luxeon Sidious that I know of.

It's a Luxeon III powered by a single CR123. It's a very small hilt inside, maybe four inches of workable space. Whoever built them obviously intended for it to be a EL saber. The blade goes in too deep to pull off much more with a luxeon. Sound won't happen but I could see a driver being in there.

The thin walled 3/4" won't make it a dueler but it's fantastically balanced.

Overall it was a simple thing to do, easily done in a day. If you could get one of the ones I've seen floating around on eBay I could lux it up rather cheap.

Hey, that looks familiar. Glad to see you did something with that hilt. Now that MR most likely won't be releasing a Sidious FX (cry) I kinda regret selling that. It looks great, though. You did much better than I ever would have with it.

I tend to be very cyclical when it comes to my build vs. buy impulses. I've had the parts to do a Vader ROTJ for a long time, I have various ANH and ESB Luke sabers in different states of completion.

One project that I'm very excited to get going on is a completely scratchbuilt Luke ROTJ saber. I have one of bobadebt's kits from forever ago that needs finishing too.

This week I finished assembling the major portions of my Roman MK1 kit, now all I have to do is decide whether I want an AFBB, a Tunisia painting/weathering job, or a Chronicles "beat up" look. Decisions, decisions.

In short, I love doing my own buildups (although, I do own a MR Obi-Wan Ep3 saber). I'm glad to see that there are some others that have really made some excellent stuff, we should keep this thread going!

Ryanlb, yup. I finally got around to building that saber. If I had the metal working tools I could really start to work with it, but as is I'm darn happy with it.

I have a full custom I'm working on now. Again, I wish I had a lathe and mill, but it won't stop me. It will be a saber inspired (I use that loosely, It has the general shape but not much else) by the bladerunner blaster. It'll be a completely decked out saber with plecterlabs electronics; recharge port, PLI, reactive vibrations, etc...

Plus because it's blaster inspired it's radially assymetric. It should handle a lot more like a sword. Only hitch so far is I may want to find someone who can TIG weld like nobody else...

Here are the weathered pics of the copper and brass saber I finished recently. The bottom picture shows the blade lit up by the LED in the hilt. It is not actually this bright in person, the picture is overexposed to show the details of the hilt itself since the room was a bit dark when the picture was taken.

Seems like a shame to let this thread go. So I thought I would post what I have

Hardware Luke I made a few years ago

I'm sure it would look a lot better if I just bought a machined pommel and Graflex clamp, but oh well.....

And a custom of mine

Both are washers and other stuff on threaded rods.

That custom looks great!

Working on a cut away for a gentleman in Australia at the moment.
It's taken an AGE due to so many distractions and family issues.

I'll post it up here when it's finished.

Howard! I'm still interested in that cutaway from you. It's Josh in AZ (US). Haven't heard from you in awhile. Glad to see you're still working on your masterpieces. Let me know if we're still moving at all on my project.

That's one of the nicest hardware sabers I've seen. Clean, simple design, very much in the style of the Prequel Trilogy sabers yet reminiscent of the Original Trilogy sabers, and it doesn't look like a hardware saber; I don't think most people would even know is was made mostly from parts that came from a hardware store. Seriously nice work!

Thanks, that is actually what I go for in making a hardware saber. I really really don't want anyone to recognize the parts. The showerhead pommel just worked too well so I kept that. Not too happy with the finish washers though.

What I really want to do is a Hardware Dooku, since apparently nobody at all does that. Not even a machined copy.

I did not think the original picture did it justice.
