Who builds sabers anymore?

Psh. I hella still build sabers.
Right now I have a Parks MPP, a Larbel MPP, and an Authentic Graflex Flash :p
none of them are built yet, I'm gathering the correct pieces right now

Neophyl, I love your JK2 saber. It's my preferred design in the whole SW universe, and yours is absolutely fantastic.

Can you please give me more information or post more pics? What blueprints have you used to make it?

Thank you very much.

I built it for Bill who otherwise goes by the name Koda Vonnor. He is doing the costume so if you go to C4 or Dragoncon you should see it. Im sure he will take more pics once he receives it. My lighting setup sucks so i find it difficult to take decent pics.

As a basis I used the blueprints from the sith archives website but we went back and studied the original game cut scenes as closely as we could given the poor resolution. Then it was a case of making sure all the electonic gubbins would fit inside and going ahead and making it. Must admit I spent a fair while planning out just how to construct it while making it 'functional'. Like the switch housing etc. There are 13 seperate parts plus screws in total.

I didnt follow the plans to the millimetre as I dont usually when building stuff, I get into the flow of building it and sometimes adjusting things a few mm as you go makes things much easier. As long as it comes out looking pretty much how it should Im generally happy :)

If you want to see how its layed out internally I did this before starting as a rough guide to make sure it all fit http://www.spartandesign.co.uk/pictures/katarn_block_veiw.pdf

Yeppers, I build sabers alright. Mostly because I can't afford to buy 'em. Most of what I've done can be viewed at:

Maybe my hardware sabers aren't as pretty as their machined or manufactured counterparts, but it's the only way I can build up my collection (no pun intended).

Nice Vader ROTJ, BTW. Is that built on a real or repro-Graflex, or just a metal tube?

Wow, I must say these sabers are very clean! You are one very resourceful guy!

I want to tell you that I am personally very impressed by your "Build Your Own Obi Wan ANH Sabre" page specifically. So I will... ;)
I am impressed.
Your PVC Grenade is Beautiful!

As a builder, collector and lover of the Obi ANH saber, I'd love to add one of yours to my collection!
Your work is appreciated!

Thanks. My aim was to both inform and inspire.

"I am impressed. Your PVC Grenade is Beautiful!"

Yeah, that did come together suprisingly well. I think the real "selling point" is the windvane. I don't think I've seen anyone else attempt it in the fashion I have.

I think that could be arranged. E-mail me (the addy's at the bottom of the opening page), and we can hammer out the details. And thanks again for the kind and encouraging words.

Thanks for you answer and your explanations Neophyl.

I can't wait to see more pictures of it. I made blueprints for this saber two years ago, but I have never been able to get a saber made of those blueprints.

I think I should contact Koda Vonnor directly to get more pictures.

Great work anyway!

Looks good all around. If only it were that we all lived on the same block. Sabre heaven?

I began building lightsabres approx. three years ago when I was pressed to do Count Dooku for CIII costume caberet and needed a fighting sabre. At the time the only Dooku sabre was made by MasterReplica which was for display only so I set about making my own. Oh little did I know. It came up a little oversized sinec there was no size reference in the photo I used. I even had trouble finding the electrics. The person that was responsible for most of the EL at the time was commissioned for one off. He got it the wrong way around--the blade comes out the wrong end. It is now known affectionately as "Dookie." But it is quite a nice piece. Expensive but nice and in truth looks nothing like Dooku's except for the curve. Beware the small print.:lol

Since that time I have also recreated Sidious' sabre and am currently working on Ventress--both EL. I have also done several costume sabres and have more planned. I also plan to convert my EL sabres into LED but with CIV looming I may have to wait until after.
If you spot me at CIV carrying something that you have not seen before, please come and say 'hello.' It is the final test of a true Jedi to construct his own lightsabre.

I still build sabers. Here is an all copper and brass custom LED saber I am finishing up for friend. I still need to weather it some to match the aging on the grip section (a part from a vintage brass fire extinguisher).

Well I was going to post some pics but they are coming in too large for displaying. I will post one pic and you can visit my website to see all the pics. http://www.orbitalmachining.com/html/killer_penny.html

I have to say that most custom sabers don't do much for me, they look too much like the movie sabers.....but that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

Very nice work! :love:thumbsup

acerocket, that's the best custom saber I've ever seen.
Boy, would I love to build a cut-away version of that!

Howard.

Thanks for the compliments. It is not entirely my design though. My friend gave me some of the components to use and a model of what he wanted his saber to be. As the design was worked out more and more items and details were added that I had a big hand in helping with. Some of the more interesting features are the light up power level indicator in the box on the grip (a 10 segment LED bar graph) that is activated by pressing the copper switch on top of the box. It also has an on/off switch inside the covertech knob. On the little box near the large thumbscrew on the emitter section, there is a very small switch that when pressed causes the blade to shimmer like when two sabers are locked together. It uses three li-ion rechargeable cells and a 5 watt Luxeon LED for the light source. Don't know if you can see it in the pictures or not but there are two brass tubes to allow the wires from the front half to get to the back half.

It reminds me a lot of one of Corbin Das's designs.
