Where to start?

The main reason I joined up here is I have a vision. I want to make a display of props from the movies/TV shows that were most influential to me. To that end I want the following:

Han Solo's blaster
Walther PPK
Mal's gun from Firefly
Luke's Ep4 Lightsabre
Harry Potter's wand
A PPG from Babylon 5
A Pulse Pistol (Winnona) from Farscape
A blaster from either Buck Rogers or Battlestar Galactica (the original)

I plan on mounting these all on a wooden plaque and hanging it up on the wall.

I'd like accurate, but it doesn't have to be 100% screen accurate. Cast resin would work just fine for me.

So the PPK and Harry's wand are easy. I'm really not sure where to look for the rest, who to trust, if I should try and make some myself (never done it) or what.

So I turn to the supportive and collective wisdom of the group here. Where should I go to find the rest of these pieces?

Thanks.

Oh, as a bonus is the Indy fertility idol would be cool on my desk.

The search feature will send you in the proper direction for just about everything you've mentioned. Try it out!

Avoid the resin Mal pistols on eBay. Most of them are rubbish to begin with (ie: arsenal/coolmodels) or are recasts of the better versions out there. Try finding a Philippes version if you want something with lineage to the original TV version. There are metal versions out there, but all three of them are rather difficult to find now though and be prepared to spend a lot on one.

As for the Luke lightsaber, I assume you mean his ANH version, right? Be patient and try to find a good deal on a real Graflex; there's nothing that compares to the real deal. If money is an issue, then the Parks version is decent for the price.

Welcome, I'm new here as well.

As someone said above, definitely search through the forums as there are lots of great threads with more information than I could handle (at first). Also, whether you are planning on purchasing a replica or building your own props, I would definitely keep and eye on the Junkyard section. I'm working on a vintage Luke ANH saber and a replica Obi ANH saber for my first builds and almost all of my parts have come from other forum members.

I'll also add that a good place for Han's Blaster parts is blast-tech.com. Depending on how much of a stickler you are for detail (you'll be surprised at how fast that happens :lol) you can get kits or fully built versions of his blaster.

The Walther is common enough to find a decent non firing replica, blank firing version, or even the real thing fairly cheap.

The UK ebay seller of Farscape pulse pistols is way too expensive IMO but it's been the only source I've seen for anything Farscape pistol related for a long time. Whatever you do stay away from Arsenal Models.

Will do. It's too bad about Arsenal, since they have so many things at reasonable prices. I guess if you recast, that makes cheaper, eh?

Ok, if I wanted try and make a Farscape Pulse Pistol out of MDF, are there any blueprints anywhere? I haven't found any in the searches I've done.

Thanks.

I'm actually in process on a B5 PPG myself. Bought the Pachmayr grips online, and have pretty much finished a set of drawings.

That is cool. How difficult is the PPG? It looks like is has a lot of bumps and bits on it. Do you have a thread with pictures on making it?

I haven't actually started construction on it yet. My scroll saw is all buried behind other stuff at the moment, so I'm working primarily on a set of the Blood Dragon armour from Mass Effect (my first costume build).

But yeah, it's a busy little piece the PPG is! The thing is tiny - it is not much bigger than the palm of my hand - but it has a CRAPLOAD of details all over it! I think there is more detail on this little thing than on most of the Mass Effect weapons that are 4 or 5 times its size! LOL
