Where to get a good display cabinet?

I know the IKEA Detolf is quite popular, but I don't have an IKEA locally and I am not paying the ridiculous shipping (They want to change me over $250 for shipping) to get one.

Anyone know of any similar cabinets that can be gotten for around the same price without the ridiculous shipping?

I haven't been able to find one. I got lucky on ebay once and got a nice one for $80 and just went and picked it up.

I got lucky and got a couple cylindrical watch cabinets that my Walgreens were replacing with new displays. You never know where you might find something cool, so check some local stores and see if anyplace might be getting rid of cabinets.

I'd keep an eye on antique furniture shops too. I have an entire storage room of display cases that I am not using right now. All sorts of lighted cabinets that I have picked up cheap. some art simply amazing. I have one that is a full glass corner jewlery case that I can't wait to use some day.

It's so true. Though to be fair, I have a coulple of those display cabinets, and they weigh a ton. They're all glass, which mkaes them pretty hard to lift as one packaged piece.

the hardware for the doors can be found at your local hardware, the same for the glass, the upper and lower base made of wood also can most likely found at your local hardware, the threaded rodding to hold the upper and lower half again your hardware, if you study the ikea cabinet it is simple in design and should be easy to assemble from parts found at a hardware or home depot and requiring very little wood working knowlege, you will only have to cut a channel the top and bottom for the glass to fit.
