Where to find the best gaffi stick?

I'm sure that the Regal Robot gaffis are great, but at that price, they're beyond my budget. I think I'll continue my search for a real totokia and mace end.

I really wish it had a bigger production run, and in a non-signature (and thus more affordable) option. Based on the price of the Mandelorian one, the signature is 30% of the price of this thing. No offense to Roger, but no one's signature is worth hundreds of dollars to me. Tom seems to think that's what collectors want. Well, I guess at least 150 of the deep pocketed ones do. I don't understand the low run-high price model, but then I've never been accused of having a good head for business.

Tom said hypothetically that something non-signature might be available later, but it would be a variant (like from BOBF or something), and I for one am not interested in any other version of the prop. This edition will be the only way to get their version of what most of us consider to be the definitive gaffi stick. And they've done such a great job of it, too. :(

I also think the price is nuts. I don't know if that is typical of what Disney has done to SW merchandise or some other reason. I'm lucky I got a real Totokia from Tom years ago. Even though my "blade" is not accurate, I could make or buy a new one and still be waaaaaay ahead of that price!

I don’t believe that Roger Christian’s signature is 30% of the price for the ANH gaffi. In fact, you can get Roger’s autograph on the secondary market for a couple hundred dollars.

The price difference likely comes down to the R&D expense of going to the archives in CA to scan the original prop along with the rancor keeper’s gaffi from ROTJ, the cleaning up of the digital scan file, along with the restoration of the totokia spike using the ROTJ gaffi. Also you have to factor in the cost of having a real metal mace end compared to the resin one on the Mando gaffi stick, and there is likely a higher licensing expense (George Lucas royalties?) due to it being from the OT rather than a Disney only production like The Mandalorian.

It is another animal than the Mandelorian one, true.
But geez, make a bigger profit by selling more for less.
(Again, I am no business genius)

Well, that’s the real trick, isn’t it? (Pun intended) The more exclusive and limited they make it, the more they can charge and also will be more on the secondary market should the buyer choose to sell down the line. You only have to look at the Prop Shop collectibles.

What was the gaffi that Tom Spina did a run of here on the RPF, maybe 15 years ago?
Did that have lineage or am I imagining that?

As far as I know, Tom just offered real Totokias that he sourced from some shop. I was lucky enough to get one of those. I think they were intended as art for your house or something, but they were replicas not real antiques.

Well I don’t remember that. Not saying he didn’t but I don’t remember. What I do remember was that he had made resin copies of a totokia and sold them back in 2005. The old offer thread is gone but you can find references to it here: https://forum.rebelscum.com/threads/gaffi-sticks-for-sale.957319/

Does anyone have a good source for the metal parts? I have the wood Fijian club that I'd like to convert but I've never been able to find someone who just makes the axe/poker attachment.

In the old days there was a member called forttusken who made incredible mace ends. No idea now. I think at one time Rylo entertained the idea, but I'm sure he has way too much on his plate now.

Does anyone have rough measurements for an accurate totokia? Just basic ones as far as length and thickness.

Yeah I remember that run, but this would have been late 90s, at least 2000. The first picture of mine was 2000. My blade is not accurate, although I blame Tom since he gave me the blade dimensions! ;) I really like the look of the Totokia I got, I just want to eventually get an accurate blade. I just hope I can remove the tube, which was glued with GOOP. This is actually the first picture I've taken of anything in my collection (other than newly built things) since 2007! I've been planning to do a new display, this was just a quick and dirty, use what I had on hand display back then.

Ive seen details in various threads, I just need to go back and find which comments in which threads. Haha.

I think I may go this route and make my own. It seems doable with enough time. I‘m thinking I‘ll take a crack at carving my own Totokia end to get the shape as close to possible too.
