Where to buy Styrene sheets in Canada?

As some of you know I like to use foam to build with, but over at GBfans website someone gave me a compliment on my foam proton pack saying, If I can do that with foam they would love to see what I could do with styrene.
I have never really thought about it before but have been looking into a bit lately. I understand that thin styrene is basicaly yard sale signs but I need thicker stuff, I am thinking about 5mm maybe. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good online source. I live in a small town with no real shops the closest city of any sizeis 2 hours away. So figured online was better. Any advice? also what glue would I use?. thanks guys and gals.

Jamie,

there might also be general plastics suppliers closer to your neck of the woods, check out advertising/signwriting supply outfits for example. Styrene comes in large sheets e.g. 8 x 4 or 6 x 3 and many thicknesses, down to paper-thin.

You can laminate thinner sheets to build up thicker ones if needed. 5mm styrene will be quite stiff and would need to be more sawn than cut. It's not as hard as acryilic, but would be tough to cut with a knife at that thickness. I'd say get something a little thinner and laminate it if you need to.

You need to use a solvent-based glue that will chemically bond the plastic. Model kit glue does the trick, but go with cheapie tubes not squeeze bottles or liquid cement. Ask the supplier if they have suitable glues - if they do it will be much better value for money than buying small tubes of the same stuff at hobby shop prices.

Cheers,
Martyn
