What's the tandy equivalent in the UK?

I often see reference to Tandy by our US based bretheren regards leather goods, pop fasteners, metal belt buckles and metal snap fasteners in general so to me, Tandy sounds like a craft equivalent of Maplins or CEF.

anyone know of any chain equivalent for a Tandy in the UK? particularly in the Leeds area. Rather than shell out tons of change I'm hankering to make my own gunbelt (cos I'm left handed) and it would be a damn sight easier if I could find a craft store that does leather, buckles etc and tools in one place, or even a few places.

Cheers

We used to have Tandys in the UK. Not sure they exist any more.

Tandys here, was like maplins, electronic bits, radios, speakers, etc.

There is a chain of big art/craft shops in the Uk, we have one in gloucester, like a big warehouse , called Hobbycraft.

Tandy used to be the UK arm of Radio shack
Tandy USA (totally different company) only sell leather goods etc.

There used to be a fella who made leather belts at the back of Leeds market, though I am not sure if he is still trading. Maybe some of the cobblers inside the market may be able to help you out? They helped me with my leather blaster holsters;)

Have you tried Samuel Taylors near the Corn Exchange? They have snaps and buckles, but no leather unfortunately.

I don't know if this is any help Lancer, but I passed this place in Shipley yesterday.

I was thinking of trying them for alterations or perhaps another source for Judge Dredd (comic) bespoke leathers.

Might be able to sort out a gun belt. I've no idea how much they charge.

Hey, a fellow Leeds member! Hiya! :cool

The belt & buckle guy on Leeds market retired a few years ago, I'm afraid.

Craftwise in the Merrion Center (used to be Hobbycraft) gets some leather pieces in now & again, but it's been a couple of weeks since I was last up there (it's now in the Merrion Market, in a much bigger store).

They also have some small buckles, fittings & rivets etc. They stock press studs / snaps too.

Samuel Taylors stock a larger selection of press studs / snaps, though for a pack of 10 they cost £5 -£6.

Maybe something at Hobbycraft at Crown Point?

Hope that helps a bit, mate! :)
Coz.

thanks for the leads so far everyone.

I noticed that craft wise also do stuff for resin casting so I'll definitely be going there. Maplins do a n ice range in tools. ie needle files, variety of tweezers, dremel etc.

cos aside from the gun belt. the Mauser I'm getting I'm going to cast a spare (lets face it, its resin. I've got laminate flooring in my house. one careless drop and no Mauser)

besides, if I can manage to cast it. I'm taking it back to bare gun, then making the bits I need for the three different Han Blasters. Source the short stubby sight from here. Might make the long one from ANH.

so I'm looking forward to learning about how to cast. I know the theory, how to make a mould, but its actually doing it which will be fun.

hobbycraft again on crown point has some basic stuff I can use so I should be able to manage something.
