I just got a Regens lighter that I want to turn into a replica of the BSG Joseph Adamas lighter. Whats the best way to get it sone right? I guess I could take it to a lace that engraves stuff but I doubt they would be able to (or care enough to) get the font, size and placement just right. Plus the one in the show wasnt even engraved aparently according to Future-past.com
Heres a picture of the lighter with the engraving from the future-past website:

And the page on the site itself with more info:

Theres got to be a better way than decals. Decals would come off with time. Maybe laser engraving or something like someone here did on the Wall-E lighter ?

You could etch it. I don't think that would be too hard to do. Plenty of tutorials on etching out there.

Though, upon further looking, it seems as thought this is a vintage lighter. I wouldn't want to do anything non-revesible to something like that.

There was a seller on eBay either early 08 or late 07 who would engrave these.

You send the lighter to him after paying ($50) and you get a beautifully engraved lighter!

Don't have photos of mine to show, but it matched the font perfectly.
(haven't filled it up to test it).

There was a member on A.S.A.P. that had set up a run. He found someone that could engrave these. It was super expensive though since it was done by hand.

Don't you have any decent local engravers at all? Generally you can show them an image and they can try their damnedest to get a match... but yeah, won't be cheap.

Anyone ever try sandblasting something like this on? Maybe have a vinyl negative cut out to size, stick it on as a template and sandblast, then remove the vinyl?

Not "super expensive", but not cheap either (maybe that was because I sent him my lighter to engrave instead of buying one of his). On the other hand, the results were fantastic!

I picked up one of the Regens lighters on eBay a while back and had a local trophy shop do the engraving electronically. I created the file for the type myself, at the engraver's request, and gave him a pdf file to use for the engraving. It took a lot of work to get the type font just the right height and length to match the original prop, but I am very pleased with how it turned out. I'd be happy to e-mail you all the files I have if you want them (I realize this thread is a bit old), just PM me with your e-mail address. Good luck.
