What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Started making a tiny bit of progress on the next part of my xenomorph taxidermy mount:

The DOOM BFG9000 is coming along. I have some of the paint work started:

This is my most recent photo that shows it kinda assembled:

I also got a wild hair and decided to start printing out some HALO weapons:

I've also been working on a couple of copies of the LOCUS helmet from HALO 4 and 5:

These guys are going to be gorgeous once they're all done:

On the other side of the shop, I've been painting up some copies of Paz Vizla's helmet from the Mandalorian:

I've nearly finished the master for his heavy blaster. Now I've started his jetpack as well:

It's oddly wide:

I've also finished polishing up the new master for an improved version of my First Order TIE Pilot helmet:

And finally, this week I started converting one of my old Mk8 Space Marine helmets into the new Primaris helmet version:

Once I get this guy smoothed out and polished up, I'll be molding it so I can make a few more of the new helmet variants.

There's more going on, but this post is long enough.

Watching the Adam Savage video for the ghostlab42.com build inspired me to work on the same kit for a GB1 costume for my better half.

Nixie tubes and heat wrap covers on the wiring, my arch enemy lol ;) after I finish that part it’s on to the second board

Lazy!

;)

I “boxed“ this phaser rifle several months ago after downloading the file from a maker on Etsy, with many late nights of printing and streaming while keeping watch from time to time on my better half’s Prusa (Disney’s The Black Hole, Silent Running, and in between, JJ Trek) after a few days of changing spools or watching for first layer issues. Time to sand, prime, maybe add a light or two...

...and why work on one prop when you can have two for twice the fun!

Also got an awesome Type-1B phaser pre-printed from another maker on Etsy from the great state of Florida. Nice print, no print time for me, just adding magnets to attach the handle With JB Weld (plastic wrap and gaff tape is your friend), then off to sanding, painting and priming as well.

Painted up two half scale Melted Vader helmets.
Being that I am a painter, I don’t usually get to see things in their final displayed state in their home. The client usually has me work a little paint magic and then they find a shelf and a base or whatever may fit with the particular commission. With these, I get to make the bases myself for the first time, and that’s a lot of fun. Not sure what to do, a wood base? Resin printed? Laser cut? What shape? Been sketching out some ideas here and there on the workbench.

That's gorgeous! Are those 3D printed melted vader helmets?

Thanks! Yep, on the Elegoo Saturn resin printer.

Mr Mold Maker

You got a pre-order Saturn?..... Niiiiice!

I almost jumped on the smaller Mars being a little over $200 USD now... but I just couldnt accept/move beyond the small build envelope.

The Saturn is still a bit small (compared to the large variants of FDM sizes)... but is MUCH more appealing as a legit resin printer!

How do you like it so far?

I have the Mars and the Saturn. I absolutely loved my Mars so I figured the Saturn was a safe bet. I’ve already got about 20 hours on the printer and don’t have a single bad thing to say about it. The monoscreen offers a much needed speed boost. My exposure time on the Mars was 13 seconds and the Saturns exposure is 3!! It still has every bit of sharpness that the smaller Mars has, I was able to print parts with very small tolerances and very thin parts for this Obi-wan saber below with no issues.

I do wish it was a little bigger, but I plan to pick up the Elegoo Jupiter whenever it becomes available. With bigger machines becoming more readily available and services like FacFox being out there for even bigger stuff? I will never touch an FDM print again.
