What's On My Workbench?

Thanks Gene! I couldn't pass up a T-Rex head. It's another one of the creations that came out of SWS. When you stop and think about how much Stan Winston has influenced and inspired artists all over the world, it's a little mind boggling! For me, my goal has been to own a few replicas from the movies I loved the best. ;)

I dig all you do man. Loving that T-Rex and the peek into your room.

I gotta ask though (and I know... I know... use the search) but how did you make the armatures for those two Bios you have sitting on your desk? I am ordering some clay this weekend (finally got the money to do so) and I want to start a Bio. I have an idea of a possible way to do it, but it isn't set in stone and I need some guidance from an inspiring person as yourself.

If you choose not to answer... that's cool. Or just shoot me a PM and we can go from there. I really want to get this going and have an idea of what I want to sculpt but like I said... it's the armature that is making me nervous.

Keep on keeping on.

Nice work Jay, gotta love the T-rex head that thing is awesome. BTW thanks for posting the armature huntorial lol

Well after a few repaints and mixing the colors to get it looking just right, I finally got the Bio done. Moving onto the jaw tomorrow...

OMG, I love everything about what you did with this one! The coloring and subtle weathering are awesome. I've go to get one of those!

I thought I'd use plumbers epoxy to hold the lower jaw on and then fill in the gaps with Apoxie. Since the plumbers epoxy says that it sets in 20 minutes and it has a similar consistency of Apoxie Sculpt I thought it would be a good idea. I ended up holding the lower jaw onto the head for about two hours...lol!

The plumbers epoxy only held onto 4 points, but once it hardened, it was rock solid and allowed me to fill the gaps with Apoxie. As it dried, I textured and blended the skin. With the mouth membrane in place this is ready for one more coat of primer and then paint!

damn jay really nice work on sculpting the details back with the apoxiesculpt. are you gonna mount it on a plaque like a trophy? :)

I want to mount it on a plaque...just not 100% sure how I'm going to manage it. The only thing I can think of is to somehow attach a thick wire inside the head, thread it through a hole in the plaque and then secure it somehow lol! Not sure yet...

Epoxy some nuts(or even a substructure) inside the neck and go throught the back of the plaque board with bolts.

That is frickin' cool

Last night my airbrush fell to the ground and the trigger busted. :( I have a spare, but for some reason the paint doesn't want to flow out of it properly :(

I'm off to the hobby store tonight to look for a spare but I doubt they have anything. I'll probably end up buying another airbrush since they are about $20 give or take with shipping.

Hey jay if you want I can get you one and ship it out to you there tons of Harbor Freight where I live hit me up bro

I noticed that my P2 Bio had a couple large bubbles in the paint - right in the cheek area. I pushed on it and the paint cracked, so I just kept scraping away at the area with my fingernail until the paint stopped flaking off. After checking the entire Bio, it looks like the rest of it is ok. Weird...I don't know why it happened, but I guess I'll have to prime it and repaint the cheeks...
