What to see at Skywalker Ranch?

Whoah! deathstar is there? I had no idea, we need an ongoing list of items at skywalker ranch!

Depends on if they've moved things around since I was there, and I assume they have. It was on a shelf with some BS AMT/ERTL background/Pre-vis X-Wings at one point. You'll LOVE it - it's the best place on EARTH!

Try to get your hands on the V2 and shared stunt Luke/Obi sabers... the shared stunt is so fragile/wobbly, and cool!

I was at "the ranch" a couple years back for a course, but they don't have much of anything on display. No models on display...that's for sure. All I saw were allot of the costumes made/used in the last three prequell films and probably 25-30 film cannisters holding/storing Phantom Menace,Clone Wars and Indiana Jones 4 etc, etc. There may have been a few others there, but I don't recall.

If you could take as many pictures of the Ark of the Covenant as they will reasonably allow you, I would much appreciate it! Close-up detail shots all over would be good, as there aren't many of those.

Update, well yeah I was there! Spent 2 days at Skywalker Ranch and Skywalker Sound.

Saw the archives, both areas. Looked over all kinds of stuff, the ark, DS model, super star destroyer, etc, etc. More blasters than you can shake a stick at. HIC, ion cannon, paintings galore, you name it..

The coolest for me was all the jackets from the Indy movies, the countless tux's from TOD, etc. Also saw something new on Luke's X-wing pilot that we never noticed...

Ben Burtt was our archive host and tour guide. Spent most of the time in his studio. Mission was a success and Ben was very happy!

We also were in situ for the sound re-mixing of ROTLA for blu-ray. Hey, it was just announced also! ;) Imagine that!
Indiana Jones whips onto Blu-ray later this year

Some close friends shared in some spectacular stuff we were able to witness...

Things are tight-lipped around there thats for sure..never been down into the archives but did tour the mansion, lake, firehouse, etc. Wonderful food and so relaxing...

Good for you man! Definitely a fan's dream come true!

How does one go about visiting there? Is there not a chance in hell without an inside "friend" or connection of some kind? Also, do they take away any cameras at the gate? Getting to see just the archives would be a dream, and my heart sinks a little when another person gets to see it that isn't me, if it's impossible for me to ever do so. :(

I was selling a camera on craigslist. Noticed the interested emailer had a ILM email. Asked him in lieu of payment he could give me a quick tour. I wish I took more pics. I didn't go the archives but I got to see the only remaining Tik-Tok from Return to Oz. I want to go back eventually to just take pics and measurements :)

AFAIK you need to know somebody inside so they can host you. For me that was Ben Burtt. Who better to show you around the entire place! :thumbsup I heard stories about all kinds of cool things, where certain sounds were recorded, how things were done, history of items, etc, etc. It was a genuinely refreshing experience. Beautiful grounds. I enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching/hearing the sound remix in a studio.

Yes I heard about the wookiee costume and other things like that. That dude ruined it for many fans with respect to seeing the archives. It's on lock down.

Food was good too, met guys like Brad Bird catching lunch at the grill. If you see Brad's outtake at the ranch when the MI4 DVD comes out we nearly walked past him during that shoot. Spent lots of dough in the gift shop too! TSA wasnt too fond of me taking Skywalker Ranch hot sauce back with me. :rolleyes

I did see several lightsaber props. They had the Luke hilt that went up into space at the main house, next to the indy idol. They were cool! I also brought some of my own sabers - Ben tested them out and really had fun with them:

We talked quite a bit on the topic of saber sounds.

I hope to go back sometime when its not all work related.

That is one of the coolest pictures I've seen in a LONG time! You are so lucky to have experienced all that!

yes! I'm so happy for you, congrats!

Dare I ask how that luke saber looked?

Thanks guys! I have lots more pics and vid, but just can't make it public.

The luke saber, in all honesty, looked like crap. :eek It was really beat up. Most of those old original props are just horrid looking nowadays.

Many of the older archive props would be shunned by people if they didn't know what it really was!
