What prop should I make next?...

Hey Steve,
Metal PR shrouds that accept airsoft thompson receivers. A guy can dream right?

I am mainly looking to keep my machinists busy as they have been great to me over the last 20 years and I feel bad that they are now slow because of the economy. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to sit in my shop making resin castings. After 20 years, I have grown to really hate resin. :lol

I have received many e-mails with images and blueprints. I have responded to all of them. Unfortunately, some of these things are incredibly complex and would be VERY expensive to produce and since I no longer take money up-front, I don't want to be on the hook for so much cash.

The things that sound very doable (and interesting) so far are:

-X Wing wings (or other SS model parts, armatures, internal skeletons). The shop can machine acrylic (meh) Polycarbonate (much better), delrin, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, etc...

-A small run of full metal PPGs. I did a run of these in the past and I have a first-gen casting off an original prop. I also still have some of the correct Pachymeyer (sp?) grips.

-Metal parts upgrade for the HCG Dallas pistol (great idea, thanks.)

-Metal parts upgrades for other misc licensed items (ideas?)

-One-off custom lightsaber designs.

Great ideas! What else? keep it comin!

Depending upon which scene you reference, that Iron Gian screw is HUGE. I am guessing JUST the raw aluminum bar stock for this would be $75 to $100. it would probably weigh 5 to 7 pounds!

Not sure how they would "thread" it as the threading is "cartooney huge". They would probably have to write a program to machine cartoon threads. :lol

It would be cool, but nobody would want to pay what it would cost.

Steve,

Did QMx pick up the weapons license for Stargate? I know Legends dropped all that stuff. Could use a few of us as prototyping guiney pigs for a servo driven mechanism skeleton for a Zat or doing the opening head mechanism for a Jaffa Staff.

How about the Mangalore Knife from Fifth Element in metal?
Now that would be something and a great collectable!

Regards
Grae

The neuralyzers would be prohibitively expensive.

<Snip a little>

Funny note...The original prop maker, Rick Gamez supplied me with all of the dimensions from the original. Later, the usual "prop nazi crew" trashed my replicas saying they were "baseball bats" and "HUGE!" (See note above about getting dimensions from original prop maker). :rolleyes

<And snip a little more>

I have seen that happen so many times... people see a prop in a movie or on TV, and then when you show them the original (or an accurate copy) they say, "No, the real one is a lot smaller than that!" I have to admit doing that on one or two occasions as well... such as seeing one of the screen used Man From U.N.C.L.E. communication pens... that thing NEVER (in my mind) looked that big on the screen!

People sometimes have a strange "memory" when it comes to how big or small something they've seen really is... and keep the dirty comments to yourselves!:love

A metal Lawgiver (still pissed I missed out on that SDS one years ago! :lol).

Replicator parts.

Black Hole laser pistol (yeah, I know, "no curves!")

I've got an easy one for you.

Metal Stormtrooper comlink from ANH.

3 piece design, white and black powdercoat, all lathe work and keep the price at $50 for finished or $30 for unpainted 'kit'. I'd buy 2 at that price.

First:
I am NOT selling anything here. Please don't ask me to make anything for sale.

Second:
I don't want to make batarangs and anything "curvy". I got a request for a Judge Dredd badge before and it's not happening. Sorry Funky, I can't machine an eagle. :lol

Any other ideas for props?

If you have something specific but don't want it public, you can e-mail me at sdstudios@aol.com

Thanks!

How about those nuclear "detonators" from silent running
