MGM studios movie gun. This is a fully functional rifle that is chambered for the 22 long rifle cartridge. Sold at auction in the early 1980's, this rifle was used in the movie industry from the early '70's to the early '80's.

Ohhh! I've seen that somewhere! I'm thinking it was something made for TV, or it may be a generic rental prop. I'm thinking something mid to late 70's What was the Ray Bradbury Mars story w/ Darren McGavin?

Let me sleep on it and maybe I'll remember tomorrow.

Wasn't there a thread asking about this a while ago? I seem to remember several people leaning toward 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

hmm Ive google'd it - not the one I'm thinking of.
It was a little disney like- they journey down and end up in Atlantis- with some naff ish dinosaurs ( lizzards in makeup). If you stayed under water in the city for too long, you grew gills behind your ears. The guards had Chrome helmets that covered their whole heads. late 70's movie.........

You're thinking about Warlords of Atlantis...

It does look very familiar. At first I was going to say Waterworld, but that does not jive with the timeline.

Here are some pics of the gun as it was sold. The B&W was the semiauto version, the color is the full auto version. The concept was that the ROF was so high that the multiple hits of .22 cal would do more damage than fewer hits of a larger caliber and that the minimal recoil would allow sustained, precise fire.

"The Martian Chronicles"--I remember watching that in 6th grade which would have been about 1980. Sci-fi channel re-ran it a few years ago, man was that a snooze-fest lol! Cool gun, though.

Cheers,

I recognize the gun, but damned if I can remember from where.

Flash Gordon (70s) maybe?

This is very strange. I have a memory of making this comment myself. If Amish reads this I hope he can say for sure whether he made the comment and I just read it and thought I was writing it in a moment of senility, or if it transposed his name as the author from me?
