what is an R2D2 kit worth these days

I have had this kit for about 4 years now and I have been thinking about selling it...it has fiber optic lights for the dome boxes and red and blue LED's for the front that I got from hyderdyne, it is also to be built around the Sono tube which I also have.....some of the parts I have 2 extra of and other parts I have 5 extra of ect...there is 1 kit plus half of another kit and still extra odds and ends parts left over...I guess the extras can always be sold off if some one want to figure out the price on all the items and I have a source for the skins if someone wanted to use the extras to build another R2 or ????

The kit was bought for me by an ex girlfriend for a birthday present but it is to much for me to work on...I have way to many projects on the burner and now that I am going into 3 years of marrage my focus has changed and things like this dont hold as much value as it once did so I am cleaning out most of my props that have been setting around in boxes for the last 4 - 10 years. If I havent built the props and kits by now it is a good bet that I never will...

yeah...there are enough parts for 1 kit and half of another with still a few extra parts left over after that....like some of the parts where there are only 2 on an R2 kit...I will have like 5 or on some other parts where there are 3, I will have 8 so I guess the extras could be sold off on the R2 builders site or here or e-bay...so I guess it would be a good deal....

The questions you will get will be about the origins of the parts. For folks who would be buying the spares, they need to know if they are compatible with the parts made to the current club specs. In some cases it won't matter and others it may if they have to mate right to a part they have or will get from a current club source.
The pieces you showed look great though. Good luck with the sale, $2k sounds about right.

As a side issue the very BEST completed R2-D2 I've ever seen went for £4,300 on Ebay last night (about $8000). It was owned by one of the guys in the UK Garrison and was simply awesome

Hmmm, this is a tough one.

I think $2K is high and here is why. To someone in the R2 builders club who is going to be picky this is a low quality kit. I'm sorry to tell you but many kits like this one have gone by on the R2 list and they get slammed pretty good.

Now on e-bay there are plenty of R2 fans who aren't as picky. Unfortunitly they don't have $2K to blow on an unbuilt R2.

My guess is you would get around $1K on ebay. maybe less.

I'd been watching this 'un myself, thinking it would go for about £2,500 - £3,000.... not £4,377. :confused

I don't know much about Artoo's, but this one looks spot-on to me. One helluva Christmas present for some lucky Star Wars fan :thumbsup

really nice R2.

PropFan's kit + aprox $1000 in parts + around 1500 hrs. + some talent = that nice of an R2 ;) :lol

DAYUM, that's more expensive than buying armor. Looks nice, maybe you should've kept the "ex-GF" if'n she bought something like that for you... unless she kept telling you that you spent more time with THAT than you did with her. :lol

I had seen this (Auction R2) - I'm no R2 Expert in no way, but to me the Dome looks wrong ... :confused

It looks too high and not "round" enough somehow ... :confused ...

Good eye JRX.

That dome isn't completely accurate, it's a Formosi dome, which is a nice dome but isn't as accurate as the lasercut R&J dome, but is considerably more affordable.

The one in this kit also is one of the cheaper dome alternatives, looks like a D&D dome to me, really old school...

Awww, I didn't know Andy sold his droid. I scoured his pix for reference when I started out. Very nice droid.

I have gotten a lot of e-mails and PM's about the kit and the extra parts...To be honest I dont know what is required to have a complete kit :( I do know that some of the parts are extras but I dont know how many of the same part is needed for 1 R2 kit...I know you need 1 dome and 3 of the holoprojector light for the dome and 2 of the little boxes next to the main eye, one main eye and one of the long boxes at the back of the dome...but this is just the dome and I may have even missed something there...anyway now there is the entire rest of the body, legs, feet ect.......I have checked out some of the R2 sites and they show parts runs which have been closed for 2 or 3 years :confused so that tells me that the sites are out dated and a lot of the parts I have are not shown on the sites and also several of the parts dont have prices so what is required to have a complete R2 set I dont know :( what is extra I dont know :( what do the extra parts cost I dont know :( I couldnt even tell you what most of the parts are called :cry so I guess I will hold on to everything for a few more years until I have the time to sort it all out if I dont build him first :) then anything that is left over I will know for sure are extras :D

A perfect example of duplicate parts are your detail parts for the legs. That's what I was really interested in.
