What does Matsuo owe you? (Problems with Matsuo)

Well you guys are right the lowlife grifter took a friend of mine for a few props recently
FWIW he recently posted on FB, March 19th:

"All assembled. I need to explain my disappearance as of late.
As it is, I have been going through extremely challenging events for the past several months.
They have culminated to a heartbreaking point as of last night. (No one’s died so don’t worry)
But life as I knew it is changing rapidly.
I need some time to process.
I’ll be hitting the ground running as soon as I’m able.
I need to rebuild my life and my business.
I have no other choice.
It’ll be better… I’ll be better. And I hope We’ll be better.
P.S. I have a lot of messages to return. Please bear with me."
He is a grifter you should see the messages he sent my buddy its unreal . He's not making anyone anything . Boy was I WRONG !

Thanks for passing that along. I'd love for this to be true. Even in the face of him taking my money with nothing to show, I don't hate the man and I'd much rather he make good on his words than not. There's no pleasure in holding bitterness in one's heart; it would also be quite the redemption story if he were to follow through on these sentiments. Unfortunately, however, he has a long history of making such statements and utterly failing to follow through. In the meantime, I'll continue to warn away others, however, I'll also be the first to forgive if he does somehow manage to fulfill his outstanding orders.

I think it has a lot to do with his glowing rep that he previously had, and people like Adam Savage who championed for him, asking us to give him time to rectify things. I believe that carries a lot of weight and they have been trying to give him ample time to remedy things.Maybe
He probably Grifted the mods too . Trust me when I tell you this guy took a good friend for a lot of money and he has tried every angle .
Matt is a not the guy people want to remember and I gave him the benefit of the doubt . Banning to be honest does not solve the problem unless he is poaching new meat on here and that probably is not the case . But he will still leave you a little hope for fulfilling why because thats what a Grifter does .

I registered on this forum just to add my own story, which is probably pretty similar to others. I placed an order and paid for a PR with Matt back in July 2021 (birthday present to myself) and still have nothing to show for it. He was never really forthcoming with giving updates and I usually had to chase him down every few months to get any information. As of about 2-3 months ago, he's all but ghosted me.

I certainly understand anyone can fall on hard times and I sincerely hope he can get things back on track again, but at the same time we did pay him as a business owner for a product. At this point, I've resigned myself to the fact that I probably won't ever see one of (from what I can tell) his excellent rifles, but taking it as a lesson learned the hard way. It's really unfortunate since his work seems so well regarded and it appears he was, once upon a time a trustworthy prop-maker.

It's really unfortunate that you didn't find this thread before that date.

I think the biggest problem is that people like this use pre-pay income from sales as a trough for personal emergencies. "I'm just going to borrow a few hundred from 'this' account. I'll pay it back when the emergency is over". Matsuo was a quality builder and well respected. Later on he did attempt to repair his reputation by at least addressing some outstanding items, but that didn't last long. Unfortunately the list on who he swindled is getting longer.

I have been waiting for 16 YEARS for my ordered and paid for Pulse Rifle from Matt. How much time is needed?

The sad thing was that he was an outstanding builder with a stellar and trusted reputation. But we see this happen to some of the most trusted. They don’t go in with intentions of defrauding people, they just fall behind. They take the pre-sale deposits to pay personal life stuff (rob Peter to pay Paul) and then don’t have the funds to buy materials to start the project. So they take more deposits to try and get the first set of projects done, but somehow can’t finish them. So they need to take more pre-sales to fund the first AND second set… and that cycle continues to the point that they have hundreds of unfinished projects for hundreds of customers. And when it’s been happening for over a decade, like with Matsuo, he is officially so far behind, he will never rectify and catch up. Once these reputable builders fall that far behind, they know they can’t refund the money, nor finish the projects. They are scared and end up running and hiding, and ghosting everyone. It’s at that point you will never hear from them again.

I understand the need for deposits on some projects, but they shouldn't be 100% of the cost of the item. There are consumer protections built into credit card and most online purchases, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. Paypal has 180 days! But so many get taken in, by emails of delays that runs out the clock on buyer protection. It's kind of hard to feel sorry for people that know this, and yet believe that they will eventually get their product. 180 DAYS! That's almost 6 months!

They could have contacted the maker and said that they will be putting in a refund request for their product, then purchasing it again, right afterwards, to keep their 'position' in the queue and start the clock again for buyer protection. If the maker refuses, then that would be a BIG hint that this may not be a good deal.

Yes, I know there are makers that have long waiting lists. Some alert their prospective customers and refuse to take their customer's money until they know they can deliver. Beware of those who have long waiting lists and want money up front. Do your research and don't be a victim.

Yeah I think there are some people with good intentions who get in a hole they can't get out of and end up taking Steve Miller's advice and take the money and run. Usually they start out shady, but it's a shame to see people who were respected members do something like that. Luckily it hasn't happened a lot. I'm not excusing the behavior, just seeing how I could easily see it happen.

Most definitely... seeing how long some have been waiting around here would have certainly turned me off from ordering from him. I only came across this thread after Googling "matsucorp scam."

Unfortunately, I am a huge Aliens fan and always wanted a "real deal" PR so my fandom blinded me. :)

You randomly Googled "Matsucorp scam " ?

Paid for a Morita Rifle in 2018. Same story as everyone else here unfortunately... cant get him to reply to messages lately and when he does I know its just the same excuses as always. What a crappy turn of events for everyone that put their trust and hard earned money into him.
