What do you use for simulating the ocean...?

There's a model rail road company that makes stuff especially for water. If you take that and some slightly wrinkled aluminum foil over it, it looks pretty convincing.

Glad to help - just be sure to post some pics when you're finished :thumbsup

Will do! First layer of the acrylic gel dried. It's completely clear and looks damn cool! I just wish I painted the base blue first. I'll paint this layer an aqua, then do a second layer of gel, and paint it a truer blue...

Can't wait to see how it turns out. I've always wanted to do a sea-plane diorama, but was afraid of screwing it up with the water effect.

At the Portsmouth Navy centre they use rippled bathroom
window glass and it looks pretty darn good.

Obviously it means you either have to cut your model around the glass or drill / mill / jig into the glass to fit
your model.

That's the stuff I used for the national maritime museum. Plus you can backspray it and it gives it a sense of depth.

I saw in a model railroading magazine a few months back, some company now makes acrylic "water sheets" They are a perfect size for dioramas if I recall They are tinted blue and are transparent. So they can also be back sprayed. Fine Scale Modeller or Model Railroader is a great place to start.

Hi guys ! I,m very interested in the outcome of this project as I have a RC U.S.S.Nimitz that I want to make a ocean display base for her when not in use. Only problem is.....my carrier is 8 feet long ! Someone mentioned a seaplane, here's a pic I found on the net while trying to find out how to make diorama water.....it's the best looking water I've ever seen !Whoever did it was very talented !
