Hey everyone. New on the forums, i searched but couldn't find a "Original Character" or "original costume" thread, so this one seemed like the most accurate choice to post in!
On and off for a month or two ive been working on a custom sci-fi build. Inspiration drawn from A LOT of things: Destiny, Deadspace, Pacific Rim, and a million other sci-fi games and films ive obsessed over throughout the years

Ok first things first: That is absolutely fantastic! I sense some Mass Effect and Halo in there too. And you're pretty much hitting all the notes I love, love, LOVE in the production design for Destiny, Pacific Rim, Halo, Mass Effect, etc.
Very, very cool.
As for what I'm doing? Fast potato-quality phone pictures incoming!
I'm doing a Star-Lord build for Halloween (
http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=248409), and finishing off an 'accidental' Indiana Jones build (a spot-on jacket was given me as a gift, and I found a 100% perfect hat, and a bullwhip, on a trip this past week).
I'm also messing about with a Jurassic World Owen Grady build (I have a shirt, vest, a cast of an actual raptor claw fossil, an ID badge pattern I made, the movie-accurate shoulder strap, and a toy rifle I need to paint) but I've been slow with that because the weather is cooling off here, and short sleeves are getting less tenable as the days go by. Main outstanding items are the rifle paint, and a proper pair of pants in the right color.
I have knives and belts of a general sort like the ones in the movie on-hand already.
And finally, I'm working out the last little details for a Starfleet Captain's getup; I have the TNG command red uniform, a good comm-badge and pips, a playmates Insurrection Phaser, and playmates TNG Tricorder, but the pants I got need a small logo removed, and the Tricorder came without face-plate stickers, so I have to make and apply those, and decide whether to purchase an enhancement kit for the lights. I also have to roll my own holstering solution in some way, and do some touchup painting on the phaser (or if I'm brave, a total repaint with auto-grade paint for better accuracy, looks, and durability).
The phaser is a relic of my childhood (one of my fondest) and was heavily used when I was a young lad, just recently introduced to the awesomeness of Star Trek. My Mom made me (by hand) a little TNG uniform (which I am far too big for now) and I'd run around with it, the phaser, and 10-zillion photocopied LCARS displays which I'd xerox from magazines or books or printed masters downloaded (over the course of days) over our dialup internet.
I think I ran the toner on Dad's work copier out three times in one single month. I still find bits of those displays to this day, almost two decades and one move later.
And yes, I know the commbadge is not necessarily era-appropriate to the uniform, but it could be considered screen-accurate. Picard wore the TNG uniform with the Voy/Ds9-onwards commbadge in Generations. And I like the winged commbadge better than the TNG one with the round backing. I always have.
