Ive been on a zombie kick after getting hooked on The Walking Dead series and can't get enough.

I currently have on DVD/BR-

Night of the Living Dead (original)
Night of the Living Dead (Remake)
Dawn of the Dead (Remake)
Shawn of the Dead
Zombieland
28 Days Later
28 weeks later
Land of the Dead

I recently saw the Day of the Dead remake (if you can call it a remake) and it sucked.
I also saw the original Day of the Dead (wasn't crazy about it)

Are there any other good zombie films out there?

George Romero has done more: Survival of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, Land of the Dead

can't say they are great, but they are from the master himself.

Army of Darkness
Evil Dead I and II
Return of the Living Dead, pts I, II, III.

There are too many to list these days.

The first two or three "Return of the Living Dead" movies... although they are more comedic than scary. "Night of the Creeps" is also a fun, '80s zombie movie.

One that isn't great, but is watchable is "Insanitarium."

Does Re-Animator count as a zombie movie?

Fido (Comedy, but great on all counts)
White Zombie (Original black and white, Where Rob Zombie took his bands name from)
Dead Snow (Nazi Zombies, 'nuff said)
Zombie Strippers (its just bad. I can't stress how bad it is. You need to watch it once though...)

As mentioned "Dead Alive" is great especially the priest. I wont ruin it but it had me laughing for hours.

I still think "Return of the Living Dead" is one of the best zombie movies to date.

The problem with zombie movies that are not mainstream is there are so many from the 80's that are somewhat forgotten. I cant even remember them. For upcoming zombie movies there is one called "Re-Kill" with some of the craziest stuff ive EVER seen on film. Hundreds of zombies in scenes being shot up, on fire, falling off buildings and rafters....
RE-KILL | AFTER DARK ORIGINALS - A NEW BRAND OF HORROR

SHOCK WAVES

My favorite one is ZOMBIE (we are going to eat you). The music is creepy as heck and it will OUTGORE any new Zombie movie.
I second Return of the Living Dead (from the great Dan O Bannon)
Gates of Hell
and My Boyfriend's Back!!! (seriously - it's funny)

Tokyo Zombie is one of those that's "So bad it's good" and pretty funny to boot. I liked the subtitles better but if you want to push it into the old *mouth move silently for 5 seconds* then "GODZIRRAA!" cheesiness then watch the dubs.

Night of the Comet

:thumbsup Night of the Comet! Classic 80's zombie flick that is quite enjoyable. I had a big crush on that blonde back then.

Return of the Living Dead is a great one also. Very funny especially when the cadaver comes running out to choke the owner of the medical supply company even though he got as far away as possible.:lol

If you are on a Zombie kick, you need to get the games Left 4 dead and Left 4 dead 2. You become the hero kicking zombie butt and trying to make it out alive.:cool

When you watch Dead Alive please ensure it is the unrated cut and not the R. The R rated version is fantasticly funny when you know the whole movie. The way they do some of the edits is great.

I never really liked those games. I actually bought L4D when it came out and hocked it the next day. Too many extra fasties and things that should be considered villians in a Marvel comic. Though I do admit I found the old L4LOL flash movies to be pretty funny.

My kind of zombies were always like Dead Rising and WaW's Nazi Zombies.

I guess what bugs me is zombies=dead, infected=not dead. And the L4D critters never left me feeling like the creatures were actually dead.

It's worth watching ALL the Romero flicks - they vary in quality but each have their merits.

Return of the Living Dead (and ROTLD part II to a lesser extent) is a MUST see zombie classic, too.

C4 in the Uk made a mini-series called Dead Set a few years ago which was edited into one movie a while later. It's worth a watch:

Dead Set - E4.com

If you want to get old school, check out 'White Zombie' starring Bela Lugosi - the first zombie flick ever if I remember correctly:

Which blonde? There were two.

But yeah, Night of the Comet is great. "Daddy would've bought us uzis..."

If you can play multi-region disks I strongly recommend you pick up the DVD of the UK mini-series Dead Set. High production values, great humour, great gore, better than TWD, in my opinion.

Runs for about 3 hours, very much in the satirical Romero vein (except running zombies), with the survivors holed up in the 'Big Brother' house (the contestants are initially unaware of the zombie apocalypse breaking out outside). Great stuff.

I understand your points, I'd add that zombies would typically be re-animated dead and if damaged enough would be no longer capable of animation. Hence the ability to kill them as seen in most zombie flicks although usually with a headshot. Bones without muscles and tendons in some kind of usable condition can't be animated unless it's supernatural as in possessed like say the Evil Dead movies. A lot of zombie movies have people dying and immediately become zombies as in the Resident Evil series and I suppose that is my view on the L4D games. The special infected are mutated dead I suppose. Still, I see your points and understand them even though I personally get the Zombie flick feeling when playing those games.:cool

I only remember one blonde in the main cast. Keli maroney, a 80's actress that appeared in a lot of B movies then. Her movie sister, Catherine Mary Stewart, was more of a brunette when compared to her.
